Newly Purchased M&P 9c - A few questions
I have grown up around guns, and recently purchased my first handgun (taking CCP class soon). I am looking for ammunition to take to the range to practice with. What are your suggestions? I was only able to find a TulAmmo 115 grain 9mm Luger FMJ at Walmart today (Employee said "doomsdayers" clean them out every morning). So I guess I'm going to be a doomsdayer in the next couple days to get a different kind. What would you recommend for practice rounds?
Also, any suggestions on a gun cleaning set?
I'm looking to keep things relatively cheaper, but not junk.
Something that is decent but not pricey.
I'm going to search these forums for a while too, I'm sure I'll find answers there, but anything current and up to date that will help me out is much appreciated!

For what its worth My range does not allow Tulammo due to the steel. They do not allow any steel on the ammo or case. Federal, Winchester, Aguilla, anything you can find that isnt steel should work find. Right now its difficult to find ammo and when you do most times its high priced. Walmart has been good as they didnt raise prices much. A couple of places I know have doubled the cost of ammo. The range you shoot at may have ammo for sale. Normally the price of range ammo is higher but you are not getting raped. Its also many times remanufactured. My 9C has never had an issue with range ammo or any other ammo for that matter.
Otis kits are fine for cleaning. Hoppes cleaning solvents are great. Breakfree CLP is also a good Cleaner, Lubricant, Protector that works well. I am sure you will hear opinions about other cleaners soon. My 9C came with a brush and patch holder so all I needed was a tooth brush and a cleaner and some cloth patches. You do not have to spend a lot at all.
Welcome to the forum and good luck.

Ammo; stay away from tulammo. Blazer makes great inexpensive ammo. Independence is ok too
Cleaner, Lubricant, & Protectant; FROG LUBE. That stuff is the BEST!!

I get light strikes with tulammo in my m&p... Federal works fine and was just as cheap.

I like buying American Ammo. Winchester White box, Remington UMC or Federal American Eagle. Remington UMC in 9mm seems hotter than Winchester, but I have never had problems with malfunctions like I see reported where people blame it for being underpowered.
As to cleaning, get a basic Outers or Hoppes or similar 9mm/38 size pistol cleaning set from Wal-Mart along with a bottle of Hoppes no 9 solvent and a squeeze bottle of Break Free CLP.
Don't forget cleaning patches.
Old T shirt or shop rag is a must.
If the cleaning rod does not come with one, you will need a brass bristle bore cleaning brush for 38/9mm/357 size.
That's about it, I think.

Ammo, shoot whatever you can get at reasonible price. Mixed reviews on steel case tulammo. I would worry about possible steel jacket used on lead bullet, not so much the steel case. Read somewhere tul may use steel plating under the copper plating that might cause wear to the barrel rifling. Some claim steel case is hard in ejectors.

Sometime back I found a reasonably priced cleaning kit made by Winchester, at Wally World. It has just about everything mentioned here & covers a few calibers in case you add more pistols. I've never tried Tulammo, so I don't know anything about it. I haven't read a lot of positive reviews of it, though. Blazer Brass is pretty good & usually pretty reasonable, IF you can find it. Welcome to the Forum!

I like the otis kits too, I have the basic pistol one which is just a short cable and patch holder and a few of their round patches. Keep that with the pistol so when I'm done I just squirt the patch with froglube and pull it through and I'm done.

I went with the cheapo gun store cleaning kit years ago and still use it.
As far as ammo goes, I have shot around 500 rounds of Tulamo 9mm with no issues other than it's dirty and I've had a couple duds.

I practice with inexpensive 115 gr. ball. I use WWB 115 gr HP "Personal Defense" rounds for serious social intercourse.
