Default M&P 40C new trigger

I just bought a 40C at Turner's in O**ard, CA. It was about the only gun they had in the cases, and it was on sale. Go figure. Test fire date was 1/28/13. I dry fired it numerous times. The trigger and reset are HUGE improvements over my M&P 9 FS, test fire date last summer. It is hard to say for sure from just dry firing, but it sure seems close to my 9 trigger after an APEX DCAEK, but with a bit more positive reset.

I pick it up in 10 days, with a range visit shortly thereafter.

Congrats. I played with a full size 9 just two days ago with the new trigger and I didn't think it was that much of an improvement...

I seriously cant imagine having to wait 10 days after I purchase something to use it. Each and every time I get a fire arm I go to the range after.

But I digress, does the new trigger feel as smooth as the apex trigger?

I would say it does feel as smooth. I was trying to feel for grittiness, but did not feel any and there was a very distinctive reset. I suspect there is a lot of variability between guns, based on what I am reading from owners of the new guns. I will check back in after a trip to the range......in ten days.

Looks like you got the new trigger. S&W is now advertising the better trigger "with a positive tactile reset."

My 40c has a test date of 1/4/13. Trigger is great right out of the box. No gritty feeling, and a very noticeable reset.

I just picked up my m&p40c from Turner's in Tustin, CA today. I dry fired mine and the trigger pull was great as well as the reset. In fact the reset was nice and loud and very positive push in the trigger. No grittiness either. The trigger also resets closer to the rear compared to some reviews posted online. The factory sku and bullet casing was marked 01/28/2013. Did they fix the issues witht the m&p pistol line? Since its my first M&P I have nothing to compare it with besides my other pistols and riffles but I am truly happy with it stock (Then again I haven't fired it yet so ill post any updates as soon as I do). So is it even worth upgrading? Only time will tell I guess.

I'm new to the forums here by the way but most of you helped out with my recent purchase sense last year. Thanks for all the input.

That must have been the same shipment as mine. I pick it up tomorrow from Turners and it has the same test fire date. I had the same I impression of the trigger, too. I hope to get to the range Tuesday. If I do, I will post a range report.

Do either of you know the serial number. I purchased a CA full-size M&P 9 which I will pick up this Friday. My serial number begins with HAZ.

I seen on gun brokers a guy has several 40Cs and they have test fire dates from this month. I wonder about the trigger feel on those.

Default M&P 40C new trigger

Do these new triggers come on a frame with a notch for a manual thumb safety?

My 40c has no thumb safety notch nor did it come with the internal safety notch. It only has the roll pin to take out the sear housing. And for added info, in California we have the mag disconnect safety. Not sure if I can use an APEX RAM, but how my reset feels I don't need one.

To me the trigger feels great! I've never shot an APEX trigger but what I've seen they are nice. I usually shoot a Beretta 92 from the 80's so my trigger feel is substantially better.

Yeah.. waiting 10 days sucks. Gives you time to accessorize

i just picked up an M&P 45 FS yesterday, fire date 2/27/13, and the trigger feel is gritty, as others have described.

My 9c had a date of late December 2012. It has the improved trigger. Very smooth, but the trigger safety is still a nuisance IMO.

Yeah, I found the trigger safety took a little time to get used to because of the shape of the trigger shape and my normal finger placement. Took a bunch of dry-fire practice....

I picked up a NIB M&P 357c today and I must say the trigger is horrible. Hate it to say the least. Mine dates back to June 2012 however. I wish S&W would offer to send out proper triggers for a reasonable price. I wanted to replace my carry Glock 26, and possibly buy M&P from now on, but the trigger alone may have killed that for me. Don't feel I should have to buy an aftermarket trigger to have a solid gun. Whoever ok'ed the trigger in the first place is clearly not a shooter or is 74 and only owns revolvers. Yeah, the trigger is that bad. HATE the two piece construction as well. Does adding aftermarket parts void the warranty?

Default M&P 40C new trigger

I assume that if Turner's gets a gun in for me that doesn't have the new frame, I can reject it for a newer one.

Since I don't know what the old trigger is like, how can I make sure I get a new one?

So I wrote a letter to S&W if they updated their triggers and this is what I got:

REFERENCE NUMBER: LTK51404006498X Please use this ticket number in any correspondence with us.
SUBJECT: New triggers

Dear Customer,

They have a different trigger in the M&P Shield only. They have not updated the triggers on all of the other M&P's.

If further assistance is required please reply accordingly.

Sincerely,

Don

So for what it's worth, I guess it's depending on the individuals comfort level and their own tastes in triggers. Hope this helps ease some curious minds.

I wonder how many of the people all wound up about the M&P trigger actually know how to shoot from reset?

The reset has always been just fine, just not as distinctive as a Glock when dryfiring...

So a year has gone by and I ended up putting in an Apex trigger in march of 2014. Mind you when I bought this pistol I was a brand new shooter. After 9 months of range time and some classes I was doing just fine with the new trigger ... but due to a feeling of a lighter reset.. and my curiosity, I switched back to my stock trigger. Funny thing is my marksmanship and muscle memory has been set in and I shoot the same as I did with the Apex trigger. I did notice that the reset was WORSE with the Apex trigger than the factory trigger (no spring upgrades or sear upgrades.)

So after the original trigger was replaced, I ended up using FrogLube on the trigger bar where the bar meets the striker block as well as on the striker block and the grittiness went completely away. Smooth as butter.

I guess after a year of classes and training it doesn't matter what you put in your gun. Good learning experience. My gun is back to stock.

Default Confused

I'm confused. Were you convinced by someone else to put the Apex kit in, or were you unhappy with the grittiness of the trigger feel?
Was the grittiness gone when you put in the DCAEK?
It sounds as though you are happy with the trigger now, so it all worked out, right?
