Default Changing front sights on m&p shield 40

Greetings to my fellow smith owners! Looking to change out my front sight of my Shield 40 cal from white dot to a red fiber optic like Springfield's XDS.....

Is this easily done or should I pay a gunsmith? Has anybody done this? Any tips will help!

Thanks for listening....

Kirk from Denver....

For some it is easy, others can be more difficult. Tape to protect. A little heat may help. I used loctite under the final install of my Ameriglo set.

Just curious, what brand of sight are you looking to put on it? I'm looking at doing the same thing with mine and just stuck on which one I want to go with

Nick,

Haven't gotten that far yet, saw that Bass Pro shop had a couple different ones around the $25-$40 range...

I put night sights on my 40c. I know it's not a Shield but it should be the same. Both front and back drifted out pretty easy with a brass punch and plastic hammer. Same going back with the new sights. A padded bench vice makes all the difference in the world. You need to keep the slide well supported when drifting the sights. Oh, they go from left to right when looking from the back of the slide.
