Default Recommended ammo for M&P22?

I just bought an M&P22 as my first handgun about two weeks ago. Since then I have put about 1300 rounds of various ammunition though it. Some I had more success than others.

I had initially bought 500 rounds of CCI Mini Mag with the gun. It liked this best of the ones I used. I had 1 or 2 misfires in the 500 rounds.

I then bought 500 rounds of Winchester M22 ammo. It worked pretty well but I had maybe 9-10 misfires in the 500 rounds.

At the one range where I was looking for more ammo, the woman running the store let me try some Winchester Wildcat ammo to see if my gun liked it. I had 3 misfires in one 12 round mag and I didn't continue shooting with it.

The only 22lr ammo I could find recently was at another local range. I bought a 500 pack of Federal hollow point. It hates this stuff too. I fired 250 rounds last night and it would be common to have 1-3 misfires per 12 round mag.

I wanted to try out various products with it to get a feel for what it liked and disliked but with current ammo availability it’s not very fun to buy 500 rounds of something the gun doesn’t like. I’d like to get some more CCI but I just haven’t been able to find it.

Any advice or recommendations? Thanks.

try putting a drop of oil into the firing pin hole you could be getting light primer strikes

I have put around 1,000 rounds of Blazer bulk through my M&P 22 in the last two months with ZERO malfunctions. Recently I was not able to get Blazer bulk, so I tried some CCI SV bulk. I've only shot 100 rounds, but they all fed, fired, and ejected. Before this I NEVER wanted to use bare led in my .22 firearms. I've since modified my position.

Default Recommended ammo for M&P22?

I've also just got the M&P 22 about 3 weeks ago. First tried Fed Target 1080 FPS I got with the gun and was disappointed, at least 2 FTE per 12 round clip. I had an old box of 50 Fed I bought in the 70's. they were gone before I knew what happened. Gun worked wonderful and accurate. Next I had some Win Super X from 2 years ago. These were 40/1280 and shot 200 absolutely no probs. great ammo! Then I got some Rem Golden 38/1280 works great. Found some Centurion 38/1280 HP and it worked great. Then Centurion 40/1250 round nose and had a couple FTE 's in 200. Found some Win Super X yesterday in 37/1280 and disappointment again. I was beginning to think I could shoot anything 1250 or above but not the case. I've cleaned it after each 100 rounds. I'll try the drop of oil in the FP hole. I'm beginning to think QC is out the window to try to produce as much ammo as possible or they're scrimping. Thoughts?

I posted a test of different ammo on this site last month. Benchresting at 25 yards, CCI Mini-Mag 36 grain HP gave the tightest groups, even better than the 40 grain Mini-Mags. They opened up from there with other brands.

Derrick87: I just tried the drop of oil. Loaded a mag with 10 rounds. First one failed to eject. But after that next 9 no problem. Loaded another mag 10 rounds and they all fired and ejected as expected. Snowing here now so back indoors. Why did this simple solution seem to work? Thanks a million!

Personally, I have found that .22 semi-auto pistols work best when well lubricated. I use Gun Butter, and, for the M&P 22, I put two drops on the barrel sleve and rub it around, one drop on each rail at the hammer, and a half a drop on the back of the slide where it contacts the hammer. I then reassemble the pistol and work the oil in by cocking the slide a few times.

it seems some ammo needs to be hit harder by the firing pin then others i guess the pin just needed to loosen up a little with some lube it was happening to me also with my M&P22 glad it worked for you
