Default when buying a new gun...

Hello everyone. I am new to shooting sports and am looking into buying a fs m&p 9mm. I plan on buying brand new and had a question. Should the production year matter when buying the gun? For example I've read somewhere on the forum the pistols from late 2012 production has better trigger? P.s I plan on getting the range kit.

Thanks in advance!

I cant really comment on the trigger pre or post 2012, the older M&P 9mm that I have shot had a good trigger. My Shield has a great trigger in my opinion.

More importantly, before you decide that you want an M&P you NEED to shoot as many makes and models you can. Buying a firearm because it looks cool, or has a cool name, or its in the movies will leave you disappointed more often. Try CZ, Glock, Beretta and anything you can get your hands on before you decide what you want.

Good Luck

Also, check out the SD9VE. It's very similar to the M&P, but will only run you around $399. No changeable backstraps, but it feels good in the hand, and has a very smooth trigger pull and good reset.

With the way things are,you might have a hard time finding an "older" model. They are all good. Just need to shoot them and get it broken in before you deside to throw any money into it.

Yes the m&p`s made late in 2012 have a better trigger...Not for the non-Shield guns...The Shield has always had a good trigger....

I have a full size and compact 9`s that I have recently purchased...and both guns have better triggers than a friends 1 1/2 year old gun...As I recall guns made in the last quarter of 2012 are produced with the new trigger...I made sure the guns I purchased had the improved trigger....Jim

Thank you for all your inputs. I did go to the range a couple of times to try out the short list of guns I was looking into. I tried sig p226, beretta 92fs, glock 17, smith and wesson m&p. Honestly, I didnt know what to look for. I do remember sig being the nicest to hold and glock being uncomfortable to shoot and beretta being too heavy and thick. Honestly nothing memorable about m&p either. Probably because im a newb . I shot all of them badly lol. But I am not going to the range again. All those guns and 200rds of ammo at the range cost me and my wife 200bucks.....rather buy a gun and learn it get familiar with it from scratch.another point for M&p is the backstraps so my wife can enjoy the gun as well

I'd read reviews for every model you're interested in, then play with them at the store. You'll know quickly enough which is the right one.

Are they issuing the range kit right now?

With the mag shortage right now, I'd be surprised...
