Were has all the 9mm Ammo gone???

Can anyone tell me were I can get my hands on 9mm Ammo and at a reasonable price???

portejw 03-22-2013 06:51 PM

Where you can get it - Gunbroker.com

At a reasonable price... No.

Flippers are getting all they can and charging astronomical prices for it. If you can get a box or two at a LGS cheap a few times a week, do it. If not, just sit tight until the panic purchasing subsides - it will come back eventually. Maybe keep an eye out on MidwayUSA and set-up to be auto notified when stuff is back in stock.

Re: Were has all the 9mm Ammo gone???

Like he said. It's all on gunbroker or armslist. Last night I was 5 min late to Walmart and I found the 22lr and 9mm I wanted on armslist for 3.5 times what they bought it for.

You're just now noticing? It's been gone for a quarter of a year already.:( But at least it's easier to get than 22LR.

Engineer1911 03-22-2013 07:24 PM

Bob's Bullets has 3,000 9 mm rounds sitting on the shelf. Have you thought about casting bullets and reloading ammo? I'm Bob in my day job :D .

Smitty357 03-22-2013 07:26 PM

I can't believe u guys are saying its so hard to find.

I use gunbot, slick guns, and the Walmart app and I got about 600 rounds in the last week. And I won't spend more than 30 cents a round for my target rounds. You just have to put some effort into it to beat out the flippers. It's tough, but not impossible. Most 9mm is staying at my walmarts for at least a day or two before they run out.

It's stored away in the homes of people that once thought having 400 rounds of 9mm on hand was sufficient, but now think 4,000 rounds or more is barely enough. Not that I'm judging, but all the talk makes me want to buy when I know I have no need to buy right now.

Dohmein 03-22-2013 09:17 PM

My walmarts ALL of them around here sell out in seconds. There are actually people there lined up still at 530 am waiting for the 7 am guy to come in and sell it. Sickening. Most of it winds up on gunbroker. I see alot of 300 round federal (walmart limit) selling daily on there for 3x - 5x the price and people pay it..

I stocked up well before the craze took hold luckily but I shoot weekly. Depending on where you live your WM might have it in, not around here. You can find it, good luck.

foxeye 03-22-2013 09:26 PM

Both the LGS in this town (Montgomery, AL) has tons of 9mm and .40 cal ammo in various brands. Gold Dot, Hornady, Federal

9mm isn't hard to find... If you don't have a job with regular hours. I don't have time to stand in line and I imagine op is the same way

I think it is more of where you live that makes the difference. I have a full time job that requires more than 40 hours a week all the time, but my Walmarts are not like the ones you are talking about. The 9mm ammo will sit on the shelf for sometimes two days before someone gets it. I dont know what I would do if I lived somewhere where they have people waiting for ammo 2 hours before they open. And that is just in case they get ammo that day.

Same here now days. They were hard to find like AR's for awhile. But now they can be found just as easy as the AR's. I live in the South, so most everyone down here already has a safe full of AR's and ammo.

kilyung 03-23-2013 12:06 AM

Carry rnds aren't a problem as my LGS has them albeit at slightly inflated prices... it's target rnds that I can't find. All the big box stores around me have been cleared out within an hour of putting ANY pistol ammo out since Nov. I've been trying to get some 9mm and .40 for six weeks now but refuse to pay the silly prices at auction. I finally had a day off today and got first in line at 7am. Managed to get 3x1000 rnds (bulk 9mm FMJ) @ $0.25/rnd so I'm good with that caliber. Now I just need to find some .40 FMJ.

danysw 03-23-2013 08:25 AM

Here in South Florida all Walmart and Basspro are empty but in my LGS they have S&B 115Grains for just $12.99.

had2 03-23-2013 08:54 AM

Well, you can thank J-No at DHS for some of this mess: 9mm Ammo Shortage: Part of Backdoor Gun Control?. DHS will have 5 rounds for every single American, not to mention hundreds of armored vehicles, etc. It's not clear if they're planning for domestic violence or Obama is doing some "back door" gun control like the article says.

It's like that up here in the North too. :D "Most" of us were well stocked way before this hit. :D.

I DO like the limits WallyWorld has FINELY put on. It helps keep those "long range flippers" away.

Franklin 03-23-2013 10:53 AM

I wonder how many Democratic gun owners that are being affected by this gun/ammo craze will remember the hard feelings and shortages today the next time they vote?

HikerDan 03-23-2013 11:14 AM

I'm a newbie who's in the market for an M&P 9.... but since I'm having a tough time getting 22lr for my first two guns, it doesn't make sense to get another gun *right now* that's hard to get ammo for. It's a rough time to be getting into the sport.... seems that the ammo is going mostly to hoarders and gougers.

Unfortunately, my area is not that well stocked, and the WalMarts seem to put ammo out at 8:00am when I have to be at work.

I will get the M&P 9, just going to ride it out for a bit. Glad to hear that in some areas it's not a major thing to buy some ammo at a fair price.

Most stores expect things to taper off when the legislation battle is over. It took a lot of effort to get a small but comfortable stockpile and it bites to have to sit on it when you'd rather be shooting.

Mcwsky09 03-23-2013 12:18 PM

Last week my local gander mountain had about a dozen boxes of 50 of various brands and a couple stacks of bulk 250 and 300 rounds. Around $25 for 50 and $100 for 250 or 300.

AR-Getsome 03-23-2013 01:03 PM

Bass Pro near me. Remington 250 round box $64, academy sports. Several brands of 9mm ammo. Prices from $11.99 -$14.99 50 round boxes. There is ammo around here. 10 box limit at Bass Pro, 1 box per caliber for popular ammo at Academy. Several ar's there today. My wife just got herself a Big sister to her 15-22, M&P15 Sport today at academy sports.

kjcoff 03-30-2013 06:23 PM

Larry's Pistol & Pawn in Huntsville, AL has a fair amount but are restricting customers to 2 boxes per day; 1 box of range ammo and one other, or were last week when I was in.

wyccad915 03-30-2013 06:46 PM

I honestly have not had problems getting 9mm. I scored 4 boxes just this week. I go to walmart first thing in the morning and I have been hitting up sports academy too. I passed on 9mm ammo once at walmart when they just got a box of federal. I found 3 bricks of 9mm this week and a value pack of 100 rounds. I actually have no need for 9mm right now so traded up for some .40 ammo which saves me like $3 as it's around $18-19 a box whereas 9mm is around $13

CaptPete 03-30-2013 07:45 PM

I bought 2 box(the limit) when I bought M&P 9c back in the middle of January. I have not been able to buy any since. There are only 2 places in town that sells ammo. I can't afford to drive 30- 50 miles everyday to next closest places to check if they have any. One of the places has gotten in one shipment of 9's since the 1st of the year & they were gone in about an hour.

I know guys who barely shot 50 rounds a year, who suddenly felt a need to buy a thousand rounds. I guess they are stocked up for the next 20 years.

I believe that once whatever legislative attempt there is to limit gun freedoms is decided, regardless of outcome, things will loosen up. I also don't believe that any big thing will come out of the "remember Sandy Hook" effort. The danger is in being complacent and allowing incremental gains. They have done this to us for the last 40 years on nearly every front we hold dear.

model70hunter 03-30-2013 10:59 PM

St. Louis has a Cabela's, a Bass Pro, and a plethora of Wally Worlds with quite a few LGS's.

I went to Cabelas Thursday after work, an acquaintance told me they had both 9mm and 22 LR Wednesday. The shelves were bare of those 2 but they had quite a bit of Herters steel case 5.56. Limit 5, I bought that, they had just received AR 30 round Magazines, bought 2 of those @ $25 each, it is the same one Bushmaster ships with their guns I was told. I also bought a 25 round box of 12 gauge #4 Buck. It makes an effective home door greeter.

I ran by Bass Pro after that, no 9 m or 22LR, they had 4 boxes of Rem 180 grain 44 MAg, bought 2, they had 3 boxes of 357 mag, bought one of those. $30 for the 357 and $40 for the 44. Shot one box of each caliber at the range today.

I had stuff before the locusts ate the shelves bare and I'm just looking for a few boxes of plinking 9 MM for my wife's Sig. Bass pro had a 5 box limit.

I do not go to Walmart to look for ammo, but each time my wife wants grocery shopping company I go and swing by the ammo department, other than some 270, 243, 308, 30-06 and shotgun ammo it is always empty.

w9kcj 03-30-2013 11:18 PM

I found some at Bass Pro,Dicks Sporting ,Farm Fleet,Walmart. The best time is first thing in the morning.
I never take the last box ,always leave some for the next guy!

str8liner 03-30-2013 11:38 PM

Its getting better around my area.

All the stores had 9mm at different times the last two days.

I actually spent a lot of time a aggravation running around my area gathering up 9 mm and 22lr over the last month.

My area is getting some sort of ammo in 2-3 times a week so its getting better IMO.

If you can find an M&P 9 now,I'd go for it. The next "wave" coming in will be when the ammo catches up and the "weapons of choice" suddenly get hard to find (again) and the prices start going up ...again.

I'd get one ESP. living in Colo. What they gonna try and take away next ?

I think that is a major part of the problem.

But - at the last gunshow here there was a bunch of unsold 9mm at show's end. In a previous post I said I believed that a few days like that will help bring prices down.

I know those boys don't like hauling that unsold ammo back out to the truck after a two-day show. They're likely to come down a bit on their prices for their next show.

So be patient and prices and availability should gradually improve.

jajo 03-31-2013 05:45 PM

I love all of the, I'm not a hoarder, but I gotta buy up all the ammo I see responses.

We're living in a time when our Gov't is becomming afraid of law-abiding citizens. There is so much "conspiracy talk," that at least some of it has to be true. I'm just glad there is still some reloading component availability. my best source is still Midway, or Black Hills Shooting Supply. Does the Social Security Admin really have 1MM rounds of 9mm?

M&P 9 Shield Mags?

I'm still looking for extra mags for my 9mm Shield. I see some 7 rd mags out there. Is there anyone with extra 8 rd mags? Or is that "Politically Incorrect"?

Harrison 04-01-2013 03:05 PM

Our local Walmart has not received a single round of any caliber of ammo since last December. The next nearest Walmart is 35 miles away and they have had no ammo deliveries in several months. I don't know why, but no ammo is being delivered around here. There is a rumor that a Walmart up the coast got one case of CCI Blazer a couple of weeks ago. The store rationed it to one box/50 and sold out in an hour.

same deal in Placerville. Walmart looks like a ghost town on that isle. I've got mine, but still look when i go thru there. it's comical and sad at the same time.

Were they stocked on a regular basis before December? Ammo is hit or miss at the Walmarts in Richmond but there is always something on the shelf. 30-06, .270, bunch of shotgun ammo last week.

unbrkn 04-09-2013 12:04 PM

gunbot has been a Science send(South Park pun.), your best luck is usually 11am EST, and 3-5pm EST. I've picked up nearly 2k in rounds of good, quality stuff, under $.40 a bullet, for FMJ.

Evofire34 04-09-2013 04:10 PM

I just buy it when I see it. I have not even had my gun a month, and I have stock piled over 1200 rounds at an average price of 32 cents a round.

CharlesWA 04-09-2013 05:17 PM

Not great at 48 cents/round before shipping but it's in stock. I grabbed 2 boxes a week or two ago and it arrived with no issues (plus one box of their boxes of "48 hour sale" .223). 50 rds - 9mm Aguila 124gr FMJ AU1E092110

I've got a couple boxes of Winchester white box target 9mm ($30+tax per 100) headed to the local Cabela's to go pick up in a couple days (along with some .22LR that's already there waiting for me). Also the range I've been frequenting had bulk reloaded 9mm for I want to say $14/50 (or maybe per 25) and boxed reloaded stuff for $16 (again, I think it was per 50 but might have been per 25). Don't forget to check the most obvious place for range ammo... the range.

BigBlueSix 04-09-2013 05:33 PM

Just picked up some at precision rifle. I don't think I would call it "reasonable" but at the same time, it was under .50 a round. They had .38spl as well (I just bought a revolver, too), so I pulled the trigger. Gotta shoot something. 200 total rounds with shipping came out to $150.
So, "reasonable"? No. "Acceptable?" I guess so.

kamanone 04-09-2013 05:53 PM

The major problem in all this is a lack of foresight. "Guns and ammo will always be there". The nubies waited to buy guns, many shooters waited until the threat of Obamaban to stock up on ammo. If things cool off lets stock up a little at a time and maybe avoid this happening again.

45Wheelgun 04-09-2013 06:52 PM

I had 1000 rds of WWB in the safe so I felt pretty prepared for this shortage. I was at the Tulsa show this weekend and early Friday ran into a guy putting 900 rounds of Black Hills Ammunition (red box) 115gr JHP on his table. I got it for $22/box. I think I did ok but that is still .44/round. I left 900 rounds of the blue box for the next guy. 20 minutes later it was all gone.

mobilecommand 04-09-2013 07:59 PM
