This gun arrived this week at my club, along with an STI Ranger II in 9mm. I had a couple hundred lead round nose reloads along for a quick function check. The STI ate them like candy, the S&W choked on them from the start. Wouldn't go into battery, even pulled a couple bullets clearing the jams. I had a few factory rounds along. It liked them. The fmj bullets are more tapered, the lead are blunter.
I had the same problem with my BHP in 2004. I have a load at 1.06 OAL, which is shorter than most listed loads for hollow points in my manuals. I use less powder than the minimum listed for the round nose at 1.16 and work up. I loaded some with Bullseye and they ran perfectly.
The Hornady Action Pistol hollow points ran well at the listed length, again a more tapered bullet.
I don't have enough time on the VTAC to decide how I like it. I have the fiber optic front and rear on my BHP so I'm used to the sight pattern. I prefer front fiber optic black rear and have seen some folks blacking out the rear sights. Maybe an option if i decide to keep the gun.
I have not owned or shot as many striker fired guns as other systems. I always feel that if it doesn't have a 3-4.5 lb 1911 trigger the trigger is "BAD". I'm trying to get over that. I have a Glock 34 in my desk at the office. It has a pretty nice mushy trigger as far as that goes.
The reason I bought the VTAC is that GB had it listed no reserve, asking $799 for buy now. I bid $700 and got it. Probably won't lose any $ if I decide to pass it along. I want to run it in low light situations to see how I like the night sights before any final decision.
Take down is easy, gun cleaned up real well. Looks like it's well made. Small back strap fits my small hands like a glove. Nice weight and size for belt carry, probably a bit big for easy concealed carry for me.
