Default Shield Sights

I'm looking at a couple of sight systems for my Shield. It's between the Truglo TFO or the XS Big Dot. Which do you guys prefer and why? And if the XS Big Dot, the Standard or the Express? Thanks for helping me out in advance. And has anyone changed them out without a sight pusher?

I just sent my slide out to have the TruGlo TFO sights installed. They are made for the full size M&P but do fit the Shield. I paid $104 after taxes and free install. Bought them at xd-hs2000

I have XS Sights on every firearm I own, save one. The pistols, the AR, and the shotgun....all have XS sights.

Big Dots for M&P are standard only (although some 3rd party websites list them as 24x7 express, no M&P sights come with tritium in the rear....there is no room). Lack of tritium in the rear does not affect the effectiveness at night at all. If you get them you'll see. If you can see the full dot and put the dot on the target, you'll hit it.

Sight acquisition is incredibly fast. I am a fan. M&Ps and Big Dots go together like peanut butter and jelly.

I have Ameriglo #251 on my Shield and would recommend them.

Had them do the same to my Shield 9mm. Great service and I'm really liking the TFOs...

How is your shield shooting with the TFO's installed? I have a 40 fs and it is shooting WAY low with them installed. I emailed TruGlo and am still waiting for a response or they are getting returned and I'll put my stock sights back on.

I just had the same sights installed on my Shield yesterday. The wife opted for the SW-245 on her Shield.

XS site has both listed for the shield, but i think i'd be more partial to the standard big dot. so has anyone put sites on without a pusher?

I always just have the armorer at my club install them, so I am of no help with how-to. (except for the shotgun, which just requires some jb-weld)

I sent mine to James@xd-hs2000 for TruGlo TFOs. I saw a poll on another forum, the TruGlo TFO was the most recommended.

hmmm, decisions decisions. Well, for one thing for sure i will not send my slide out to get sights put on. either i'll find a way to do them or find a local good gunsmith. I just can't be without my baby for too long! Well, guess i got some thinking to do. I'm sure i can't go wrong with either TFO or XS, so it's up to visual preference at this point.

I just had the XS Big dot installed on Thursday, that big front sight really jumps out. Put 100 rds through it today and I like them but it will take a little getting used to.

i have a feeling i'll be going with the XS, but still not 100%. I'm just debating on getting a delrin punch or something similar and doing it myself. I figure as long as i put them back in the same spot it'll be close to what the factory sights were. just gotta be careful punching the tritium front on.

I have a rear sight on a Shield that will not budge. I have used heat and then froze it and have tried Kroil oil to neutralize any Loctite to no avail. The sight movers, two different ones do not seem to impact it at all. Does anyone have experience in removing these? If so, how is it done?

I bought a sight adjustment tool from ameriglo.net and could not budge them at first. Then I removed the set screw from the rear site and put my pencil pointed soddering gun in the hole and let it heat up for five minutes. At that point I was able to move it.

Fifty rounds into a new shield, white dot from front sight pops out!
Timely thread. What about the paint that glows in the dark?

I just installed a set of XS Big dots on my 9mm Shield. I used a steel punch to remove the stock ones. They weren't destroyed, but marred on the left side in the process.Didn't damage the slide at all. Had to whack them pretty good. XS went in much easier, the rear slid right in and tightens with set screw and for the front follow the instructions exactly (keep filing the base until it slides in half way, load up with included loctite, then use included plastic punch to knock it into place).

The sights are rock solid. Haven't shot with it yet but the install wasn't bad and I don't have any special tools. Only things I grabbed from the toolbox were a standard steel file, hammer, and a nail punch.

I just picked up my Shield today from my LGS. Had them install some Trijicon HD sights before I came and picked it up. I have them on 3 of my 4 M&P's. Absolutely love them. I like the TFO's (which I have on my M&P45) but much prefer the HD sights. Faster front sight acquisition.

My Shield 9mm shoots to POA with the TFOs installed. Couldn't be more pleased.

How did the stock sights shoot on your 40 FS?

Jbinbi...I've read the do it yourself glow in the dark paint isn't much good. I am happy with how I've painted my front sight fluorescent red/orange with model paint. A friend of mine glued an arts and crafts red jewel into his front sight. Pretty decent improvement for just a few cents.

I'm contemplating leaving the back sight blacked out as is and just installing a fiber optic front. I can't figure out the proper height though.

I've been thinking about doing the same. Any idea what the turnaround time is there?

Took about 7-10 days IIRC. Worth the wait. Also had him install my Apex USB at the same time. Buy your sights from him and the install is FREE.

bought TruGlo's off Amazon and had local gunsmith install them. I think I paid him $25 to install.

it's the third set I've had installed. Had two sets on a couple of pair of Glock's before I got my shield. That was 8 years ago and they were still running strong.

I highly recommend them!

what do you mean by filing the base? why would you have to do that on sights that are built for this gun?

Had a local gunsmith install my Tru Glow tritiums on my EDC Shield 9mm today and I do love em.

I also ordered a universal sight tool so I can do it in the future.

Tru Glow needs to make a rear sight that fits the slide better. I have those same sights on my Compact, and they are real nice, just does not look quite right on the Shield. All they have to do is make the rear, the front already fits nice. I like the sleek look of the factory one.
