To Apex or not to Apex, that is the question?
I tend to be a revolver or traditional DA/SA pistol shooter. I picked up a 5" M&P 45 a month ago. The pistol fit my hand like a glove but the trigger was not not what I was used to. It was gritty with a heavy pull and no discernable reset. I had done enough research beforehand to know that the grittiness would work itself out with shooting. After 500 rounds the gun is wonderfully accurate and reliable. The trigger is much smoother but still a bit heavy for my taste with no reset I can feel. I know adding an Apex kit will reduce the trigger pull weight, but will it reduce the reset point and add something I can feel?

Yes, it's very noticeable, and if not, I doubt you'll have trouble selling the apex parts later and getting most of your money back.

I'll second jtaylor996... you won't second guess your decision.

I have the same gun, with the apex duty/carry kit, trigger pull was reduced by almost 2lb, it breaks nice and crisp, with audible and tactile reset.

I had a MA compliant M&P 45 with a factory that tested near 12# on my digital fishing scale. With allot of polishing per Dan Burwell's online direction (and a $3/ 48 state) trigger return spring, I was able to get it to a reasonably crisp 6.5# or so. That took several hours of work though. On my next gun, I dropped in a Apex sear (only) and kept the factory MA springs. Way better and a great deal for $40. Bottom line, 7 M&P's latter the Apex sear has gone into every one I own (including that original 45FS.)
I now find the reset on my M&Ps fine but do know Apex makes something for that as well. I just can't comment on that particular "upgrade".

I also started with revolvers, double action on M 686. Purchased a FS 40 and the trigger was just okay. Purchased a CORE 9 and the trigger was better. Shot the CORE for a couple years in IDPA, worked fine, but my accuracy at over 15 yards was disappointing.
Decided to add full Apex with a flat faced trigger. Completely different feel, much improved, why did I wait so long? My accuracy at longer distances improved considerably, but at shorter distances maybe I'm just a little quicker.
Went with the silver Apex return spring on all three of my M&Ps (including my M&P 40 C carry pistol), the triggers have identical feel. The identical feel was very important to me.
You will be satisfied with the results.

Add another one. I got a FS40 (with full intent on getting a .357 Sig barrel for it and having that 2 cals in one scenario) a couple year back. My cousin had owned one for a few years at that point and I really liked his trigger. Well, my trigger was garbage. I already had a Shield in .40, and it was just fine. This full size was terrible. Contemplated selling it, then dumped $120 into the Apex FSS trigger.
NIGHT AND DAY
Ridiculous. I don't remember what the pull weight is on it. 4-4.5lbs I think. Whatever, it became one of the better plastic gun triggers in the safe. I actually hit stuff with it for once. Sad that I had to drop more cash into it to make it be where I wanted (would have bought something else up front in hindsight), but if you already have the M&P, the Apex will make a discernable difference in it. Not just a little bit better, a lot bit better. I have no idea about that duty/carry option, just the full set sear number. The one where you have to pull the rear sight, upgrade the striker block, sear, and trigger. Pull is light, travel is mininal reset is short. If you have the cash to blow on it, go full on.

Just go to the Apex web site. They have very good videos on how to do it.

I have Apex trigger kits in my Shield 9, 9 Compact and Glock 19. Accuracy for all has improved 100%.

Do it. Just do it. I put the aluminum trigger and FSS kit in my full-size M&P 9mm and used the silver spring. It came in right at 4.5 lbs on the gage and it is MUCH improved.

Dry firing and putting rounds down range will slick up your mating surfaces over time, but it won't put in in the same league as a trigger kit will. And some triggers are fine out of the box as well. I was not one of the fortunate ones.
Just for the heck of it, I ran and did a pull test on my FS40. Wheeler spring style guage, 5 pulls. 3.4, 3.3, 3.3, 3.0, 3.6. The 3.0 I likely had it way down at the tip of the trigger shoe. I probably should have paid better attention to the placement for more consistent measurements. But either way, that gives you a pretty good idea. I think it was like 7.5lbs and gritty out of the box. Some stoning and polishing brought it down to 6.5-7lbs and after that I said forget it and bought the FSS kit.
