Magazine identification
Dumb question. My wife has a 9mm shield and I have the 40 shield. We have several magazines for each caliber in the range bag. Is there an easy way to label the magazines for quicker separation? I would prefer not to permanently paint or alter the magazines. I was thinking of a small colored sticker dot or something but I am concerned they will detach and gum up the magwell.
I haven't looked at it too closely yet. Just wandering what kind of solutions others have come up with.

I have several magazines marked with a target paster on the floorplate.
Not in a position to gum up the mag well like some of the safety warnings I have seen on some brands.
I don't understand your reluctance to apply a dab of paint or fingernail polish, though.

I may end up doing just that. Just seeing if anyone has had good ideas first. I did just realize that the followers on the 9 are gray and the 40 are black. So, that helps if they are still empty when segregating. Preloading would still be a problem.

For Shield magazines, is there a logo on the magazine baseplate? If so, colorfill one caliber, and leave the other unfilled. Or colorfill both, with two differentiating colors. Looks good, and you can identify easily.

Doesn't the caliber, 9 0r 40, appear on the magazine just under the S&W logo?

It does. It is stamped into the metal which means there isn't great contrast. My hope was to make it a quick recognition thing.

How about a silver Sharpie? Use it on the body or baseplate, it does not alter the magazine and it can be cleaned off with denatured alcohol.

I use different colored paint pens from Walmart. Cheap. Just put a big dot on the baseplate. They are permanent, though. Gold, silver, and white seem to work well.

I have our mags marked with P-Touch labels. We shoot with a group and sometimes intentionally mix up mags (dummy loaded drills) so we have our name, caliber, mag number and also "clean" or "dirty" (dirty are for dropping in the dirt on the range).
Our 9mm mags have white labels, .40 are red.
Notice where the wear marks and where the mag holsters rub and avoid putting the labels there.

Brother P-Touch label placed on the back of the magazine. If you don't have a labeling device, a small colored sticker or dab of paint should work - maybe something that glows in the dark for quick nighttime reference.

Ha! This is why I keep you guys around!
I do indeed have a nice brother printer with some expensive labels I have only used a few times.
I can do .40 in yellow and 9mm in white and attach them to the back of the mags. They seem to stick good and are thin. I made one and inserted the mag about 30 times and it didn't seem to rub on them.
Thanks
