Default holster for least gun wear

i usually just wear paddle holsters or ones that loop on my belt but now need a iwb holster for my shield. The reviews on the crossbred type(leather with kydex) seen to be good but have hear that the shield's finish wear really easy with a kydex holster. Anyone on here have any problems with it wearing the finish?

I have a crossbreed with my compact and a n82tactical pro for my Shield and I would say I had more wear from the crossbreed but then again with a carry gun the last thing I worry about is aesthetics. Both might cause some wear, keep it dust free with canned air on occasion but honestly a carry gun with no wear is a gun with no character

I use a hybrid kydex paddle OWB and it leaves a little mark on the slide as it snaps in place. Rubs out with rem oil cloth, but agree with Dohmein, adds character. EDC, not a glass case show piece.

i dont care if it wears a little bit, i just have to unholster my gun a few times a day since i cant carry at work. ie: i can put it on when i wake up, drive to work have to take off and lock it up in my car, get off work put it back on, come home to change so thats taking the holster off again, then again at night. Most of the time i can just leave it in the holster when i take it off but like to keep it in a lock box in my car when im not wearing and most holsters wouldnt fit in the box also.

Use pocket holster for the Shield. You do not need all that leather for such a small pistol. If you are going to use an IWB or OWB, get a bigger gun.

Nothing at all wrong with some honest holster wear on a carry gun.

Kramer Handgun Leather makes holsters out of horsehide, and he says it is so smooth inside that it won't wear your gun's finish. Expensive holsters, but probably worth it.

Among pocket holsters (my carry mode for fifteen years) the Uncle Mike's and DeSantis Nemesis are both good. The Nemesis doesn't fit as well in some pockets, so I use the Uncle Mike's on those days. Very few people will notice a small gun carried that way. Mine's a revolver, and I've never been questioned as to whether I'm carrying.

That's probably fine if you wear size 38 pants, some us where 32's or smaller. No way will a Shield fit in my pockets unless I get the gang banger style pants........and that ain't happening.

I have a Desanti Nemesis and my Shield after one year of pocket packing has no wear.

Note sure why there's even a question. IWB with a kydex outer and leather-lined inner. It's not even close in terms of comfort, concealment potential, gentleness on the finish when drawing and re-holstering the gun. Very quiet, and very fast. Check it out:

Kydex material by itself should not show wear on the gun, but you need to keep the inside of the kydex holster clean or dust and other foreign material could build up which could cause wear on the finish.

I try to remember to wipe mine out occasionally, but ultimately wear is part of the cost of carrying.

And really, if you worry about holster wear on a carry gun, how are you going to feel if you ever need to use it and will lose it for evidence for a substantial amount of time?

Don't think I would ever carry a family heirloom.

I ordered a foxx iwb holster that i posted the link to previously, i was reading reviews and the ppl that say it wears never mentions cleaning the holster/wiping it down which makes sense that that would cause wear. I just never haddled a kydex holster but i ordered one should have it within 2 weeks.

Thanks for the tip on the kydex dust/material build up. Did not know this. Never thought of that as part of the maintenance!

Default Theisholsters.com comments on pistol wear

I just got my new Theis holster and it looks like it is going to be a winner. That is not the reason for the post here however, but I wanted to pass on some comments on their experience on pistol wear, holster care, etc. Theisholsters.com | Holster Care | Custom IWB Holsters They state the kydex is not the cause and that does make sense ... dust is what makes a lot of different things wear out and fail. Gotta keep the cleaning cloth handy I guess.
