I am more of a milsurp collector so my only other auto pistols are from pre-1945. I wanted one full size pistol for defense and when I get a better job, recreational competition. I've fired or handled Glock and XD but one day I rented a full size M&P 9 and fell in love. Knowing the M&P 40 can convert to .357 sig, .40 s&w and 9mm, I went for it. I got the Pro Series for those dreams of competition, and once and a while I like to spoil myself.. $669 - $50 military discount and I've got the gun, 2 15rd mags, 3 back straps and box.
I tried all 3 back straps, medium fit me perfect.
The trigger is terrible right now, a really disgusting grinding, rocky, heavy pull and a mushy break. Typical of a new gun I guess, but the "pro series" really should come with a smooth, crisp pull out of the box! I can't afford thousands of rounds of .40 cal ammo right now, so I am looking at either calling S&W for free polish job or the Apex job. This is my only issue with the gun.
Both my mags rattle after 12 rds are loaded. I've had 15 rd Beretta mags, about 12 or 15 of them, and none of those rattled nor have any of the 1911 mags I've owned. Not a big deal I guess, but I cant help my tactical mindset so right now both are loaded to 10 rds. The ammo is Hornady XTP.
Overall I'm very pleased. The trigger issue will go away one way or another, and I don't foresee a rattling magazine endangering my life anytime soon, so I am very pleased with my purchase. Maybe I'm spoiled by the broken in 1911
I'm ready to take this thing into the field and put it through its paces... Does anyone think .40 cal will go under $21/box anytime soon? That's what it is here
