I'm fairly new to shooting sports. I recently bought a sig p226 tacops chambered in 9mm. My wife and I took it to the range and put 150 rounds through the pistol. It ran great, no failures whatsoever. However, my wife did have some trouble gripping the pistol and she didn't like the weight. So i thought I might get her an M&P range kit. I just had a question about the m&P 40.

1)Can you put SW factory 9mm barrel to convert it? or is there only aftermarket barrels?
2)does conversion kits have any disadvantages (ie. more wear on the slide or frame, fittment is not 100%, etc.)
3)how much is the factory barrel VS aftermarket(any recommendations on which ones)?

I just thought since we already have a 9mm, having a different caliber wouldn't be such a bad idea.

Yes just drop the 9mm barrel in.
Conversion barrels are double the price.
No problems using the stock 9mm barrel. There is just one small area that is different between the 9mm and 40 barrels.
Conversion barrels $150+, stock barrels $70 to 85, depending where you purchase them.
Go for it, you will be happy.

I'll just add that the stock barrels are available at Midway.

Don't forget to grab a couple 9mm mags as well.

There is another forum entry on the 40/9 barrel conversion. A lot of entries stating hundreds/thousands of rounds down range with ZERO problems/malfunctions. I got mine from Midway, went from back order to in my hand in just a couple of weeks. Having trouble Fi do g 9mm mag though...

If you get the 9mm barrel, just swap out with the 40 barrel. You can use the 40 mags to load 9mm bullets. Don't need the xtra mags. Works great.

Yep. $70 later including shipping I got my 9mm barrel from Midway for my 40C. Could not be happier. Yes, .40 mags will have to work for now but eventually I'll source some 9mm ones.

We have 9mm barrels for both my wife M&P 40c and my M&P 40 FS. I'm on Midway's notify me list (was) for the barrel and mags. About three weeks ago I was sitting at my computer and was notified that the barrels were in and snagged one. Then about a week later a notification that the mags came in. I was only allowed to buy one so I'm guessing it was the last one. Then today a notification for mags came in so I got two. I'm now done with buying 9mm mags and barrels for our M&P 40s. When you get a notification that an item like the 9mm mags are in you need to jump on it right away, they go quick. I expect to see an influx of M&P 9mm mags on ebay in about a week. Friggin gougers!!! Two delivered from Midway is $73.
