About the only thing the M&P and 1911 have in common is that they are pistols. Both work fine as range and carry guns, as long as you are willing to practice with them, and learn proper handling and function.

Grip feel, magazine capacity, trigger action, materials used in manufacturer, thickness, are just some of the differences. Best to handle both, and see what feels better in your hand.

The M&P 45 compact is nice. I have one, and it conceals well, about the size of a Glock sub-compact model 26 9mm, but big enough to hang on to when firing.

A 3 or 4 inch 1911 carry's and handles well also.... Just depends what feels and points better for you. Rock Island Armory makes a nice 1911 in a variety of models at or below that price range. Have one of them, and it works well.

For most shooters, I would lean towards a M&P, as it offers a rail for mounting a flashlight, a nice option for home defense. The trigger action and lack of a thumb safety is also a plus for a lot of shooters who do not get the chance to practice like they should, as that nice, crisp trigger pull on a good 1911 can be a liability under stress unless mastered. One of the reasons most police departments prefer a pistol with a long, double action type trigger pull for general issue.

I recently bought a Springfield Armory Mil-Spec model 1911A1 for $599.99. So far with 300 rounds through it, there have been no malfunctions. It puts the holes exactly where you hold the sights.

Default M&P 45 trigger issue

OK,
I picked up a new M&P 45, 4" barrel, manual safety model a few months back. I shot 2 boxes of hardball and everything went well.

Last week I took it to the range, loaded more hardball and racked the slide, pulled trigger, it would not fire. Checked safety, if was off. Still would not fire.

Pulled with 2 fingers and it finally fired, must of had about 20 lbs of pull on it. Tried one more time and it would not fire. Pulled the slide and barrel off, everything look clean and in order. Re-assembled, with safety off, it still would not fire.

Any similar experiences? I will take it to my local gunsmith soon but not sure if this is warranty issue or minor glitch?

For a dedicated carry piece this seems totally unacceptable.

Kind of like a parachute that almost always opens...

Or you can call S&W customer service. They would likely send you a paid label to send it back to them.

Default M&P .45 Full Size FDE!!!

I would most certainly go straight to S&W. Their customer service is amazing and quick. Get this, My m&p full size 9mm front site paint popped out within the first 100rnds fired out of it so i called them and they sent me an entire set of sites to replace just the paint on the front site. Also, I have the full size .45 with the Flat Dark Earth frame so i called S&W cause i wanted to change the mag release button, palm swells and magazine base plates to black just for some good looking contrast and they sent me all the parts for free. Not a huge thing but i was impressed. Other than that i have had no issues with any of my 4 fs m&p pistols.
