Problem getting frame tool off new M&P40C

I have a brand new 40C.
I want to cange grips.
I am supposed to be able to turn the frame tool 1/4 turn and pull out.
It turns but does not come out.
Do I need to litely pry this out for the first time or what.
How do I get his out. I am sure it in there tight because it's new.

Just pull and twist. It will come out. It's TIGHT.

I had this problem last week with my new 40c. I looked on here and saw people saying to just keep working it and it'll come out. Mine finally did but when it came out the little plastic tab on it was all mangled. I thought about trying to get a replacement from S&W but figured this would probably be the only time I ever removed it.

As an aside I ended up preferring the medium grip anyway which was the one that was on there to begin with.

I had the same problem with mine after struggling a few times to get it out. I ended up getting another when I ordered some stippled grips and had a new frame tool stippled as well. Now I keep the mangled one in my range bag and I won't be removing my current one unless I feel the need to change my grips for some reason.

I've owned a few M&Ps, and on every one of them, the frame tool is hard to remove. What I do is take a pair of pliers, with the jaws padded, and turn the frame tool...then I take a wooden dowel rod, clothes pin, or padded punch (I've used a variety of items) to lever it out. I've never damaged one yet.

I put on the small back strap, replace the tool, and then leave it. I never use it to strip the pistol. I use a punch or screw driver to push down the sear disconnect lever (or whatever it is called) or I just pull the trigger (like a Glock) to release the slide.

Apply silicone to the tool and the frame after finally getting the tool free the first time. It will be much easier to remove after that.

I've ended up buying replacements for all of my M&P's because I've mangled every one getting it out the first time.
