I recently bought a 4.25 CORE. I had wanted the 5 but my LGS came across a 4.25 and my excitement got the best of me. My rationalization was that if I was going to put a RDS on it (which I am) then, as far as sighting, I was comfortable with the 4.25. I don't have the RDS yet but sure shoots sweet with just the iron sights. So far no regrets.

+1 except for the RDS. Wanted the 5". Went back two days later to get it and they only had the 4.25". Wasn't going to risk passing that up too.

I didn't care for the fiber optic front sight on the 5". So I went with the 4.25".

with the M&P 40 PRO 4.25, can you still swap in FS M&P 9 barrels and mags?

And that is what I like about mine the best, much better than the 3 dot setup on the 4.25 for my eyes.

It's arguable, I'd just pick up the factory barrel. Use the price difference to buy more ammo.

I would say it would have more to do with your use. The 5" is more geared towards competition having the longer sight radius, FO front and black extended rear. I see the 4.25" as more of a home defense gun, a little large for concealed carry but having the night sights and better trigger than the standard models.

I have a 4.25" 40, and now I have a 5" 40 CORE, I have only about 3 mags through the CORE so far. I am planning to swap the trigger in the CORE with an Apex trigger. I like the CORE but will let you know more about it after I have run a couple hundred rounds through it.

I have both. The 5" with FO sights is my SSP and Production competition gun, and the 4.25 with night sights rides in a Safariland ALS holster, just enough shorter to be comfortable for wear in a vehicle. My 5" is not comfortable to wear in a vehicle. Both are essentially stock, and slick. A USB would have saved me some time.

I own the CORE 4.25 and it shoots wonderful, like a charm. I'm also a Glock owner as well. The trigger job i have on my glocks and now having replaced the USB and the Sear on my M&P, = no grittiness, and smooth easy to find reset and easy clean fun shooting
