Default New to me M&P 40c

Hey all,

Just got a M&P 40c last night.

Ordered a full size magazine and x grip to go along with the two mags that came with the gun.

Have 200 rounds of 180gr fmj to go shooting this weekend.

What I am wondering is, if the shell in the case has a date of 6/30/13, does my gun have all the latest updates?

First, WELCOME to the forum!

Second, Congrats on the 40C. I just picked one up this last Saturday. It fits me really well, but the grip is.....well... not real grippy for me, but nothing I can't correct.

As for the updates, I don't know. Does yours have the key hole, manual safety, or none of the above? If in doubt, give S&W a call, they'll be able to tell you.

Thanks

Mine has no manual safety, but does have the little plugs where it would go.

It also doesn't even have the plug for where the key would go. There is just no hole in the frame at all there.

Congrats on your new 40c! I love mine. Out of my 3 M&P's, it is definitely my favorite! (also own a M&P 9 FS and M&P Shield 9). My 40c is currently serving nightstand duty as well as "woods" duty.

Are you considering adding any extras... night sights, Storm Lake conversion barrels to shoot 9mm or .357 SIG, etc?

Best of luck with the new 40c!

Glad to hear others like the gun!

As of now, the only real extras planned other than the full size mag and x grip are maybe some rubberized talon grips, but I want to get some rounds downrange to make sure I know which backstrap I like best before sticking them on. I wish that they made hogue grips for the compact, they look really nice.

After shooting some, I may decide to change the sights, but since I plan to carry it someday, I will be leaving the trigger stock.

Congratulations on the purchase of a great handgun!

Besides 15 round mags with X Grips the only thing I felt the need to do with my 40C was polish the trigger bar where it comes in contact with that small silver button. That got rid of much if not all to that gritty feeling when squeezing the trigger. If you decide to do that do it so the area that comes in contact is smooth to a fingernail run across it. I used a fine rubbing compound & a pencil eraser to finish it off to do mine. A friend of mine who has a full size M&P40 used toothpaste & a pencil eraser for the same results. It took me all of 10 minutes to get the job done.

The next thing I did was get some Glo-On luminous paint & painted my sights. I did it 2 years ago & they still glow nice & bright with 10 seconds of exposure to my LED flashlight when it gets dark. It'll last for quite a while with reduced brightness but still more visible that the stock sights. Not quite as good as Trijicon night sights but a lot cheaper. Since I'm not out much after dark I didn't want to incur that much expense. Make sure the sights are thoroughly cleaned with alcohol before applying the paint.

I also feel that the 6 1/2 pound pull is fine for self defense carry.

I think you have all of the most recent upgrades to your 40C. Mine was made in '13 & I don't believe anything else was done after that. The trigger bar assembly should be stamped with an "H" & be slightly bent.

Good shooting!

Good call on leaving the trigger! About 6 months ago I took a class at my LGS called "Personal Protection and the Law" and there were a couple local LEO's present, an attorney who specializes in defense cases as well as a local pistol instructor who is a retired USMC Gunnery Sgt... so there was quite a bit of knowledge in the room. Those folks all agreed that while it's OK to modify the sights on a gun you intend to carry concealed or use for home defense (adding night sights) they all stressed one point: "Do not alter the trigger in any way!!" They said that it gives a prosecutor an excuse to make you look bad in front of a jury. (If the gun is just for range fun or competition, they said "Mod the hell out of it!" because that's a whole different ball game) A couple of them even said not to do any extra feed ramp polishing! They suggested buying a gun with a feed ramp that comes very polished from the factory (pretty sure Kahrs are known for this.) Just thought I'd mention this since reading your post made me think of it...

1st, Welcome to the forum, outstanding information here.

Now I'll chime in, I bought a .40FS 1st, then a .40c. The .40c gets the most carry out of all my SD rotation.

Inexplicably, I am most accurate with it than any other in the rotation.

My SD guns are stock, not because of any particular reason other than they are for SD only, they are $500 guns, I don't shoot competitive, I'm happy if I hit a paper plate (8") as that counts as COM to me. They perform great for the cost, are reliable, and the BIGGEST reason is...........by time I add this or that, well the cost will start to rise quickly, then I'm in that range where I could have bought a Kimber etc.

A weak person as myself, it's easy to get in the "I need this, I need that" mode.

See my point? Nothing to do with lawyers or LEO's. I just love the M&P's, they do what they are supposed to do!

Prepare for the fallout from this portion of your post, don't take it personal if it comes. There are MANY points of view on this subject.

That's fine, ginzo. People can comment and leave all the fallout they want! I won't be offended as it was not my quote. I was merely repeating what I heard at the class I attended (not the first place I've heard that piece of advice, either) and I just happen to agree with it. Obviously there's a lot of folks out there who don't since I frequently read posts on here from folks who just bought a Shield for everyday carry and they installed the Apex trigger & springs. I'm sure a lot of the idea behind this also comes down to which state you live in. In certain blue states, where the criminals are the good guys and we as gun owners are demonized by many in the media & in certain corners for even wanting to own a firearm, I would def NOT mod the trigger on a concealed carry/home defense firearm. Just my $0.02... and it might not even be worth that much!

by that thinking I can't carry a 1911 with a 4 lb trigger then, I'm sorry my trigger pulls are a low as it can reliably be, I want to hit what I aim at, not the floor or an innocent bystander, if is a justifiable shot is all good, if you have an AD you are fried anyway.
