Default M&P 40C Safety slot filler?

Hey everyone, new guy here.
Just bought a new 40C and I noticed that it looks like the frame was machined to have a thumb safety on it, but there isn't one. There is a small piece of polymer glued into the slot to fill it.

This may be a stupid question, but is that supposed to be there?

After viewing pictures and videos of other's guns online I haven't seen anything else like it. I'm hoping this isn't a mistake, it kinda bothers me.

Your input is greatly appreciated!

If it's a square piece of polymer, filling a square hole on both sides, then yes, it's supposed to be there. In actuality, it's two pieces and they aren't square at all, and they require you to strip down the pistol and remove the sear block to take them out.

Yup those are put into M&Ps that have the sear block that is safety capable, so you can add a thumb safety later if you wish.... all the newer M&Ps should come with those, or thumb safeties.

They shouldn't fall out, as they are shaped to be integral to the sear block, not the frame. If yours are falling out, they may be broken and you'd need to get replacement "plugs".
