Default Appendix carry holster?

Newbie: What is the best recommended appendix holster for the Shield? I have found this is the most comfortable position for me to carry. Looking at n8 squared in original with straight up and down angle. Anything would be better? Now have a cheapo Uncle Mike's IWB-- pretty comfortable. Looking for something sturdier...like possible the n8. Any thoughts?

I have been a fan of appendix carry for years. My EDC is a Shield that I carry in a great holster from Game Face Holsters. Great quality, quick delivery and realistic price. Game Face Holsters. Makers of Kydex and Holstex Holsters.

I'm a huge fan of Cobra Gunskins, in particular their X2 model for appendix carry. I have two of them, one for my Walther PPS, the other for my Kahr .380. That particular model is inexpensive at around $32.00 bucks. Link here:

X2 Waistband Holster

The owner 'talked me into' this model. Yes, he has more expensive offerings, but he insisted this would best fit my needs. He was right, great holster, quality construction at a terrific price. I have some high-end, expensive holsters by some well respected names, and while they are beautiful and built by true artists, I actually like the Cobra's better for comfort. Check 'em out. Good luck

The N8 is comfortable, but way too thick. I carry my Kahr CM9 AIWB in a Kusiak IWB Holster (go to page 5). A uniquely made holster. Not expensive. Made of Herman Oak leather. Easy on and off, yet the clip holds like it is screwed to the belt! Very comfortable with smoothly rounded surfaces and no sharp edges. IMO, get it without the attached mag carrier.

N82 will be thick...thanks for that info. Do any of the recommended holsters have sweat protection? Really looking for that feature also. I'm looking for comfort, being able to get a full grip at draw, and sweat proof. Any more suggestions based on my criteria?

"i have been using appendix since i was a rookie police in 1971 adn i carried a detective special"

I carry a J-frame AIWB, and I love it! The gun is so accessible there whether sitting or standing. (It even works for me when I am buckled in my driver's seat, being a lefty.) And, though a lot of people dismiss snubby wheel guns as outdated, they are a very good CC gun. The frame is only 1/2" wide and the barrel is thinner than that. The cylinder is no wider than the grip, and is small and rounded. The back of the frame angles down toward the grip, making a very compact profile above the holster mouth. Carrying AIWB, I hide the cylinder behind my belt at the front left belt loop of my pants. I carry it low with a backward cant that lays the grip down horizontally on top of my belt. My middle aged spread expands above it, making any untucked shirt drape over it with minimal printing. (I sometimes put my cell phone in a holster on my belt immediately behind the grip, and that totally eliminates any printing from the gun, even with a thin T-shirt as cover.)

By comparison, even the smallest semi-auto is almost an inch wide - all over, from the muzzle to far behind where the frame of the revolver ends. That chunky slide going back beyond where you grip the gun makes for a much larger profile above the holster mouth and contributes to printing. And that chunky slide and frame going all the way to the muzzle makes for much greater bulk and discomfort below the belt.

Of all of my pistols, I am most pleased carrying my J-frame AIWB. It' been a great CC gun for 150 years, and for good reason!

Garrett Industries has a nice appendix carry with a sweatshield. Comp-Tac and BladeTech also have good appendix carriers, IMHO. I'd avoid the "J" hook - for me it always pulls the pants down separate from the belt. Find a holster with a full belt clip/loop, or a "C" clip works too.

Comp Tac and Blade Tech have **** for AIWB holsters. Look at JM Custom, Custom Carry Concepts and Dark Star Gear.

McCabes Gunleather. I love mine. It will be 118 here tomorrow so sweat protection is important to me.

The 2 0'clock from comp tac is a nice appendix carry. Myself, my dad and a brother-in-law all use it.

I guess it depends on your build. It seems like it would be OK, but when I tried it I found the inside top edge uncomfortable against my spare tire which has an extra bulge at 9:00 and 3:00. But then, I don't find any IWB holster comfortable at that location, so I don't blame the holster. Like I said, I love it AIWB.

I have been pretty impressed with this holster myself. The version with a mag pouch at the top of the slide is interesting for appendix carry because it put the mag on your centerline where it is invisible and easily accessible.

I carry my Shield .40 in a N8 squared Professional. Can carry all day and hardly even notice it. I love the positive retention yet drawing is smooth and easy. It is a little thick but I don't find that to be a serious negative. On the other hand during the summer here in the south it does not work for me in shorts and a t-shirt - carrying a little 380 while it is hot...

My favorite appendix rig for the M&P compact is made by Alabama Holsters. However, I often carry with a cheap leather holster from High Noon Holsters because it rides right on the belt, and is truly invisible on me (& they make the best belt clips I've every used).

I don't have a Shield, but i carry my M&P-9 (Full size) in a Blade-Tech Nano. I carry my G19 in either a Blade-Tech Klipt, or an INCOG (also used to carry my G17)

of the 3, the Klipt is the most comfortable. a friend just got his Klipt for his XD-S 45 and likes it a lot in AIWB.

INCOG

Check out High Noon Holsters. Thin holsters, very durable. I use the "Bare Asset.". The only qualm I have is it doesn't stay open. But for that same reason it is a very comfortable holster.

For all your appendix carry lovers...........Note to remember.

Remove your gun before you get in a car.

In an accident the seat belt will drive that gun into your appendix and possibly kill you. Saw this happen a few months back to a off duty cop.

I just got a Raven Concealment "Vanguard 2" in the mail, and I like it an awful lot! Makes the M&P just about the same as a holstered 1911, and that's just pretty nice.

Check out the ultra thin kydex from F.I.S.T.

I've used mine daily for the past 5 years. Still like new.

If the INCOG didn't have the attachment on the one side (slide side) the comfort would be similar, but that wing takes up space that is used by genitalia. The Klipt also sits lower, so it doesn't poke the stomach as much when bending over. The angle cut of the Klipt (trigger guard side) gives it more room between the holster and leg. A friend chopped off that wing and its not bad. Also the Klipt uses thinner kydex and is 1/2 the cost of the INCOG.

I recommended the Klipt to another friend who used to carry a XDs IWB (with a CBSTD) , but now he's carrying in AIWB and says its much more comfy.

Do you think the clip will hold on tight enough to blue jean pant's waistband in a beltless condition?

Are you saying the gun fired? Or that it jabs into vital organs?
