Fiber-Optic sights on a CORE Pro Series 9L
I'm about to buy a 9mm CORE 5", and found that Dawson Prec. has a FO front and FO adjustable rear at .295 tall.
Has anyone done this conversion, and is it tall enough for the co-witness "feature" to work? I don't know how tall the factory "tall" sights are.
Am I wrong in assuming that the dovetail notches on the slide are the same as the other M&P 9L or shorter slides? Dawson's specs say their sights fit ALL M&P.
Thanks for any insight.

You will find that most advertizing descriptions that say "Fits all M&P" rarely applies to the CORE
I compared the two with a caliper for you. Standard front sight is .150" (or so) from the top of the slide to the top of the sight and the rear sight dovetail is .475" front to rear. On the CORE, the front sight is .330" (or so) and the rear dovetail is .315" (or so). I say "or so" because there will be a difference on how it's measured depending on who is doing the measurements. But since I did all the measurements I think that this shows that the difference is significant and the rear sight will not work and that the height will not co-witness. Of course this depends on where the sight manufacturer measured the sight height (top of blade or center of dot). BTW the front sight dovetail is the same for both pistols. Hope this is helpful.
Another thing I noticed is that there is a significant rearward offset on the standard M&P sights whereas the CORE has no offset, so if you filed down the dovetail on a standard sight and installed it on a CORE, it would be hanging off the back of the slide.

Thanks for this information. Looks like I'll need to find out more about this type of conversion.
Anyway, just purchased the CORE from GunBroker, and should get it by Friday.
Thanks again,
Dave

I did replace the front with the Dawson .305 tall sight. It lasted about 50 rounds, and walked off the gun, literally. While shooting the target, my hits were going left, and the sight was moving right.
I've decided that the white dots are fine, as on my other M&P that has Fiber, I'm no better. I can't do a blacked out rear sight either like the traditional PRO series. Can't even see it.
Learn to love the white dots!

The JPoint co-witness' fine if that is the question. The Dawson I put on was the same height as the original, so yes it did too.
However, the sight fell off after 50 shots. My theory is that it is so tall, that its mass deformed the base, and loosened it up. The g-smith tried twice to shim, but no cigar. (Made from aluminum).

The plate for the red dot cutout appears to sit flush with the rest of the slide. Theoretically couldn't the regular m&p rear sights still fit over top the cutout plate when you mount them? Obviously you wouldn't be able to use the cutout with any optic or anything, but wouldn't the rear sight still mount functionally?

The dovetail for the Core is a different size than the regular M&P's. (this thread is 3 years old, if you had a new question, starting a new thread would be the preferable method).

I have the JPoint on my CORE 5", it's really low and the co-witness sight picture is just fine. Actually my red dot is an old Optima 2000 pro point but identical to the JPoint.
