Default M&P9 Sights and Technique?

I just bought a used M&P9. The previous owner bought it new 8 months ago. I shot a couple mags through it and I am shooting low and left about 6". I'm sure it is probably my technique and practice but that aside, does anyone have a burris reflex mounted on their M&P9 or any other optic? If so what mount do you use or optics you recommend? I plan on putting a lot more rounds through it and practice my technique before I make a decision. Any advice on technique is greatly appreciated too.

Thanks,
Eric

first off, before adjusting your sights or throwing a red-dot onto your gun, make sure you have solid fundamentals.

If you have a shooting partner, have them hand you your M&P. They can either hand you it with a loaded chamber, or empty chamber. when you pull the trigger on an empty chamber, you will be able to see that you jerked the trigger or not.

Here's a target of a friend that i helped out one day. I first had him shoot his way on the target on the right, then the target on the left was from doing the drill that i mentioned above. I think the left target was only 5-6 rounds and the one flier he knew he jerked the trigger right when he pulled it.

before the drill above I also did this drill with him at the range. it makes sure that you have a good trigger press. I used to do this but used coins when i started shooting years ago.

the videos were with an empty round on the front sight, as well as an empty gun (keep ammo in a separate room from which you are dry firing)

the target is from just handing him a gun that was either loaded or empty. no case sitting on the front sight.

What Danno man said.

Before that though... at home, empty the gun. Double check you emptied the gun. Leave the ammo in that room then go to another room for dry fire practice.

Practice pulling the trigger without disturbing your site picture. Maybe even balance something on the slide like a coin or spent casing and practice pulling the trigger without dropping it.

There is no shame when at the range dry firing before loading up.

You could also be "anticipating" the shot, but trigger more likely... maybe a mixture. When doing what Danno suggested, if you catch yourself dipping the barrel as you pull, that's what it is. If so, keep doing what he suggested.

You guys are telling us to keep the ammo in a separate room when dry firing?

Really?

There's no such thing as being too safe when handing your firearm.

SOP

There should never be ammo in the room you dry fire in. I know very high level shooters who wait an hour after a dry fire session before they reload.

Many ND's happen to very experienced shooters because they decide to do a couple more reps(after they reload)...

Yes. There is no need for the firearms industry to needlessly support the spackle and attorney industries.
