Default M&P 40c Practice ammo?

I've owned an M&P 40c for about a year now. It is my EDC. I use Speer GDHP 180 grain, short barrel, ammo for protection. I fire one mag of 10, each trip to the range (about once a month).

Up until now, I've fire about 100 rounds of Speer Lawman, 180 grain, during each trip to the range. I have about 500 rounds left. There has not been a case (or even a box) of lawman ammo to be found anywhere. I read their "letter to consumers" stating that they are at max production capacity and they are not selling to the Government. WOW! Then where the hell is it?

I chose Lawman practice ammo to stay consistent between practice and personal defensive ammo. Unfortunately, for many months now, I have tried to "wait out" the lack of ammo. Soon, I will be forced to find an alternative ammo for practice. I see some Federal and Winchester available in the $0.47 up to $0.64 cents a round.

Who likes what in practice ammo? Forget reloads as I am not going to do it.

Thanks! Marcus

I use what ever I can find. I have used the cheap aluminum Blazer 165gr ammo and got good results with accuracy. I wouldn't worry about where it prints, I would concentrate more on trigger control and interaction. The more rounds you put thru your pistol, there better you will become with it.

You could shoot a couple of the bulk packs and then 5-10rds of your SD ammo to make sure it is printing POA vs POI.

Ruling out reloads would be foolish. If they are made by a reputable company they are just as good as factory loads at a cheaper cost

I think the key word in this statement is reputable , I shy away from the ones packed in Zip Loc baggies at the gun shows as well as the ones labeled "40 mm".

Blazer Brass works for me too. Gilberts Guns was showing it in stock, about forty nine cents a round before shipping. They're fast shippers too!

My original thinking was that you should practice with what you carry in terms of recoil, but I have changed that. Your emotions and adrenaline will make an emergency life or death situation completely different to where you probably won't notice a difference in recoil or sound. So long as the your 40 loads are not ultra low recoil loads, you'll be fine to practice with just about any ammo.

The important thing to to is be familiar with the pointing, trigger action, clearing of jams, changing mags and sight picture. It seems 9 times out of 10, you never even see the people in a shootout aim at each other.

I think whatever you can get will be better than not practicing at all.

Blazer Brass or Remington UMC in 250 round boxes. Keep a watch out on gunbot. You should be able to get it for .40/round.

I use American Eagle & Winchester White Box, both in 165 gr in my M&P 40 & Sigma 40VE. I'm waiting for my M&P 40C to be delivered & I certainly hope I have enough ammo to test it. I also shoot a mag of SD ammo - Federal HST 180 gr, Speer Gold Dot 165 gr & lately Hornady Critical Duty 175 gr to make sure it'll go through my pistols with no problems. So far all seem to shoot about the same with no surprises.

I use whatever I can find. It eats up everything. That is the benefit or a top quality gun. Lesser guns have issues with certain ammo, not the M&Ps.

Also, get out and get a few hundred rounds thru it. It needs this to break in and work the best. Things like the trigger will smooth out. This will take 200-300 rounds.

This was exactly my thinking as well. However, your logic makes sense to me and I think "similar" is better than nothing. I still have a couple of months of practice ammo. Who knows, maybe availability will improve soon.

Thanks! Marcus

I recently got a can of 500 180gr from Georgia arms for 150$ plus 19 for shipping. I've used them before and have had excellent results. majority of brass is federal.
