I can't believe 9 mm Shield didn't sell.
I help a guy out who does gun shows every weekend. When we loaded up the trailer with guns to take to Miami, I noticed a new 9 mm Shield he didn't have last weekend. I figured it would sell quick. Well I pushed the gun, & while lot's of people knew about it, none bought it. They bought Beretta M9's, XDS 9's, lots of Glocks, & a M&P 9c, but the Shield is still there, at $449. While other vendors had 40's, I think we had the only 9. Is the mad rush over? GARY

Why someone would pay an extra $150 for the new XDS when a Shield is available is beyond me. Practically the same firearm that accomplish the same exact thing.

They have more than one 9 and .40s both at 3 different LGS that I went to today in FT Laud. I bought a .40 that was built and test fired just 5 days ago by Smith according to the brass and build date. All were priced at MSRP.

A lot of people are soon to be upset, lol. My little brother sold his XDS .40 for a Shield .40 way back when. And recently i acquired an XDS 9mm to fiddle around with a bit.
Lucky me i found some guy that wanted to pay me an extra 175 for my the XDS 9mm. Even after i have fired nearly 1500 rounds through it. Now the ole lady has a Shield .40.

Your brother must have had an XD 40 not an XDS as they haven't made an XDS in 40 yet. Maybe you meant XDS 45?
I have both and jury is still out....the Shield feels slightly better in my hand but the XDS 9 sure is nice.
Shooters Outpost has both 9 and 40 Shields all day and week long for 399.99 so maybe the rush is over for those who know about them. I always hear someone asking the clerk "What's that?" when they are looking at the Shield now.

My bad that was a typo, yeah i meant the .45.
They are sweet guns, but the Shield still feels right at home when u put it on target.
Sad part about this story is my ole lady sold her Shield 9mm last week. She's been carrying the XDS 9mm since she sold it and even to her she didnt like the feel that great. She's now happy to have another Shield back in her hands. And lucky her I had an extra 9mm barrel as well as both the 9mm mags hanging out in the safe.

Different strokes for different folks.
I think the Shield lost out to the XDS for gun of the year when it came out.
I would take the Shield all day long over the XDS.

My Shield 40 is my favorite gun, but unfortunately I don't carry it that much in the summer heat. I pretty much am always in shorts and prefer pocket carry vs IWB. So I pack my 642 -- it just is a bit easier in the pocket.
As soon as I get back into jeans and a heavy belt, my Shield will be with me all the time.
As far as the question -- is the rush over yet? In my area (Mechanicsville, VA), it won't be over until my LGS has one in the display case on a regular basis.

No matter how good the Shield is when something newer comes along we all know folks will want the latest and greatest new gun even if it is no better. Just the way people are.
Now me I never buy anything new if I already have something that works well for me and is still working. Save lots of $$$ that way.

I wouldn't want it either, or any other 9 mm IMO. People must be wising up and using larger calibers (45)!

I was browsing on Gunbroker the other day and I was very surprised to see six pages of shields listed. Plus prices are now in the $400 range as appposed to some in the $600s a while back.

I see the XDS appealing to some because of the following differences.
-Different back straps.
-Ambi mag release that is not as sensitive.
-No thumb safety, but does have a grip safety equally complained about to no end for no particular reason.
-Extended mag carries one extra round over the Shield
-Grip texture is a little more aggressive and slightly thicker for those with larger hands.
-It has a rail for a light which some might like if used for carry and HD.
-Glock like trigger which some prefer since Glock will probably never make a single stack pistol.
-It's available in 45acp.
With all of that being said, you may disagree and counter anything I stated, but it's all personal preference. I owned a 9mm Shield and shot it side by side with my XDS in 45acp on several occasions to see which one I liked better. It took me some time and several range outings to prefer the XDS that just fit me better. I'd buy a 9mm Shield again and XDS if I got either for a deal like my my originals which was $350 for a almost new 9mm Shield and $450 for a almost new bi-tone 45acp XDS.

If i had to carry a 6 shot weapon for SD. I believe i'd prefer to carry the good ole trust .357 revolver. Thats just another reason some prefer not to own the XDS in .45. Although XDS in 9mm makes more logical sense, lol

Nakanokalronin,
"-Glock like trigger which some prefer since Glock will probably never make a single stack pistol."
The Glock 36 is a single stack .45 a.c.p. It has been made for years now.

It's bigger than the XDS and it's not offered in 9mm.

Well for me, a slim 6 shot 45acp semi-auto is easier to conceal than a 6 shot .357 and definitely easier than 6 shot 45acp revolver.
Everything is fine though, I'll be carrying this during winter.

No but it is a Glock-until Glock make a single stack 9mm, the Shield 9mm is my EDC ( may carry my Glock 36 if conditions call for it-hell in the pass I have carried both)

The problem with the shield is that it's capacity. I would love to have one maybe as a backup but the capacity just doesn't sit well with me.
I loved my first M&P9c that I sold like a jackass and finally bought another one last week. I love love love love the pistol, good capacity, great accuracy.
The G26 is another weapon that I own and I love it, but not as much as my M&P, I also have the 33,and 36.
my biggest waste of money was the sig p250 when it first came out and it was a ***.

I carry my Shield 9 with an 8 round mag plus one in the pipe & at least one extra mag. But then I do not carry it to places i anticipate a high capacity gun fight. For that I carry a FS M&P 40 with an extra mag or two.

For me where I live that price is high, way high!! But may be perfectly fine for your area..So it's hard to say just why it didn't sell.. I think it may have sold in the $369.00 range but then again you're talking gun show prices that I always find high..George

All the LGS's here in S. Florida sell the Shield for MSRP which is $449. They feel that until until the supply catches up they will sell for that price, & always get it. My boss refused a few offers of $425, but as the show was winding down, he finally accepted. He's getting another Shield 9mm this week. Hopefully more XDS's too. We could have sold 6 XDS's in 45 this weekend. GARY

I've seen a number of Shields not sell on Gunbroker lately and many were below MSRP. I've seen several not sell for $440 that had free shipping. Things have definitely calmed down when it comes to guns. Still not there when it comes to ammo though. But that is slowly improving too. I've been seeing lots of 223 for sale; some 9mm; but almost no 22 LR.

I think a big part of the decision making is that many have come to realize finding 9mm ammo will NEVER be easy so they are looking for other calibers

Could be with the AWB threat still fresh in the minds of 2a supporters that everyone is going after the items most likely to be banned. I'm glad I have my .40 shield and would love to have a 9mm Shield as well, it isn't on my radar for purchases because I'm busy racking up on SCAR & AR mags, along with M&P standard capacity mags if I can ever find them in stock again.

SCAR......16s or 17s?
One of those has been on my list for quite some time. But the ole lady has trouble giving me the green light after she's seen the prices lol.

17s.... And I have 45 OEM mags for it!
Looking at optics now, IDK if I'm going to go with an Elcan 1.5-6 or the upcoming VCOG, I've looked at Leupold Mark 6 & USO 1-8 but I've disregarded both as options, USO w/mount will be stupid heavy and the Mark 6 has a small red dot and ****** battery life compared to the Elcan or VCOG.
I plan to buy a little brother to the 17s soon as well, but I have a nice DDM4V1 LW w/ Aimpoint T-1 on a LaRue mount to hold me over for a bit till I find one at a reasonable price.

I know ammo is hard to come by....deal with it every day as everyone in Northern Va comes into my store to get it from me everyday. I can't understand why other places are having issues getting 9 vs 40...on avg I probably get 20-30 CASES of 9 for every ONE case of 40 I get in.
Heck get more .22, .223/5.56 and .45 right now then I get .40.

My LGS has a shield for $419, and and XDs 9 for $659.
I handled both in the store. The Springfield has a nicer feeling grip, but the Shield had a better trigger. That price difference is ridiculous.

I'm probably going to get a Shield pretty soon. Glad to see availability is returning...now just hoping for a decent price .
Since we're talking about XD's. I shot one earlier this week for the first time. I think it was an XDS - the small(est?) one. Anyhoo, it shot great, very accurate. I noticed it felt heavy-ish for a small polymer gun. I looked online later and I think it weighs about 26 oz. (should have snapped a pic with the phone to be sure of which model) which is a full 7 oz, almost a half pound, heavier than the Shield. Anyhow, it was more accurate than me

Maybe they are like me, I've shot the Shield, not impressed, moves around from shot to shot in my hand, and doesn't hide any better than that the 9c!
