Default Problem with Shield 9mm?

Hello all.

I recently picked up a pre-owned Shield 9mm. From what I have read there are 2 methods to field strip it. Push the sear disconnect down and then rotate the takedown lever and pull the slide off or just pull the trigger and rotate the takedown lever.

I have been able to remove the slide when I push the sear down, but when I try the "pull the trigger" method, the takedown lever will NOT turn. What am I missing here? Is there possibly an issue with it?

Thanks for any help or suggestions.
Bill

lock the slide to the rear. turn the takedown lever down release the slide slowly. when the slide gets to the in battery position pull the trigger and it should slide off. took me a couple of tries to do this. hope this helps. there are a few videos on you tube that help explain, that's how I learned.

Thanks for the help. After I posted my question I looked at some more YT videos and there was one that did it just as you described.

Here is the video that had me confused. She rotates the takedown lever while the slide is forward. I wonder why hers is able to do that but mine isn't.

Stick with the way the book says to take it down:

1) Lock slide to rear
2) Take a screwdriver or something similar, reach in and push the sear disconnect lever down (the FS M&P has the grip pin for this)
3) Rotate takedown lever, release slide, off it goes.

No need to re-invent the wheel here, just do it the way the book says. Unless, of course, you want to see which one of those parts in there you can break if you don't do it the correct way...

When I first got my shield I was using a pen to lower the yellow lever when field stripping my gun. I got tired of that. Rack the slide 3 or 4 times, check in the sight hole to verify no shiny in there, pull trigger to take slide off. I never had any trouble getting mine off. You may need to email s&w and see if you need to mail it off. Plus is, s&w customer service is top notch.
