I took my M&P Shield, which is my everyday carry, out today, and noticed a large rust area starting to form around the "M&P" on the front of the slide.
I've been carrying this particular pistol for around 2 months, and inspect it everyday. How did I miss this?
Also, will S&W warrant it to get repaired / recoated?
Take a photo of it, contact S&W and tell them you can send them a photo. I would think they will have you send it back to them, for them to inspect it. I have used pocket carry on my Shield 40 everyday, in hot, humid Florida, for over a year. Not one spot of rust or any sign of problems with the coating.
That's what I'm thinking too. I've carried this 40 for around 2 months, and have never had a problem with the coating on any of my other pistols.
I've had a few 'cosmetic' problems with this pistol and wonder if it wasn't rushed through the assembly process as it was made in March 2013 a.k.a. the height of the 'Mad Rush' for the firearms industry due to the scare.
