Best way to sell?
Well I'm looking to sell my M&P40 FS, definitely something that is going to be hard to do but I'll explain. In the last 21 years of owning firearms I've always been into them for SD after being put in a situation that I said I will never be put into again. With that I have always owned compact to subcompact size firearms, this was my first full-size piece. Already owning my Shield 40, now I'm looking for something more in the compact size such as the M&P 40c, Glock 23. Now for my question, what is the best way to sell? Don't really want to go to my LGS, probably won't give me squat. I've only put a box of 50rds through it and have put an Apex poly trigger on it. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful shooting firearm but my heart is more into SD in the sub-compact or compact size. Any advise on the best way to sell would be appreciated.

I list guns on local gun forums and on this forum and have had good luck getting what I wanted out of them.

Yeah, just post it up here with your asking price and I'm sure you'll get a bite.

Have had fairly good luck using Jason's. I trade and sell.

Unremarkable, no-collector-value handgun?
Sell it locally to one of your shooting buddies.
Shipping relatively-inexpensive handguns is costly, and its a royal pain in the butt.
If you have to sell it in a hurry, don't expect to get a good price for it.

Not in a hurry to sell, just throwing it out there for anyone who might more into full-size than me. Not looking to make a profit but not looking to get screwed either. Can post pics if someone wants but really was just looking at the best way to sell. Thanks for everyone's responses so far.

Never sold a gun on this site, but I've bought several. Other than the involvement of FFLs, which is unavoidable, it seems like a pretty simple procedure.

^^^ Trying to sell it in this thread is not the right way to do it... ^^^
Put it in the classifieds.
It's probably worth around $375 shipped if it's perfect. Lots of guys (including me) have bought that same gun with three mags for $399 shipped.

Which is pretty much why you should sell it locally.
Would you rather pay broker-commissions, and outrageous "because its a handgun" shipping fees for the privilege of selling it to a stranger, or would you rather take a small loss on the sale, and have it go to a friend?
Bottom line is, the transaction costs for selling a handgun on the internet, and the ordeal of abiding by the punitive handgun-shipping procedures, almost always makes selling a handgun worth less than $500 "on the internet" a losing proposition for the private seller.

Check this thread
Hunter5,
About three weeks ago I had a very similar question and posted it here in the Lounge. I got some great answers. Check this Lounge thread and in particular Loboleather's reply. The title of the thread is below.

Use Gunbroker, they are the biggest Gun auction site, like eBay. You can set a minimum bid starting price and hope for more, but most using Gunbroker know the values. Their total fees for a $500 gun is about $13 to $16.00. The listing fees run from free to about $5.00, depending how you list. I usually pay a little over $3.00 per item, to list. Normally the buyer pays an additional $15-20 fee for shipping, over and above the winning bid. The gun has to be shipped to a FFL, who will transfer the gun to the buyer, unless it should sell to someone in your own state. Then the transfer depends on your state laws. You get paid before you ship the gun.
I have sold many guns through Gunbroker, and never had an issue. I have also purchased a few guns through Gunbroker, again without issue. If it doesn't sell , all you pay is the listing fees, which can be from free to $3-5.00, again depending on how fancy you want the add to be.

Where do you live? That will be a huge factor in selling a gun.

send me an email with pics of what you have, I have a 40c with night sights, apex trigger and 3 extra mags. Pistol has 600 flawless rounds through it. I polished the feed ramp before the first bullet was loaded in it.

Thanks to everyone for your responses, it definitely helped with the decision on how to sell. Surprizingly when I arrived to work a friend of a friend offered me $425 for it, probably gonna take it for it's not much less than what I paid for it new. Now to decide between a Glock 23 gen4 or an M&P40c. Gonna do my research before I make up my mind.
Thanks again to all!!

Take your time. The Glock 23 and M&P40c are very different guns.
