Sear Deactivation Lever
I just finished firing my first 50 rounds through my M&P 40. I was trying to disassemble it, when I noticed the deactivation lever was in the upright position and wouldn't come down. In otherwords I had to dry fire it to disassemble the pistol. Now I know most people probably dry fire their M&P to disassemble it anyway, but is their something wrong somewhere when the lever won't come down? Anyone have the same problem?

Now that you have the slide off, is the time to inspect it and figure out why the lever will not move down. There aren't many parts there, and you should be able to see what the cause is. We have seen posts of the pin missing, spring missing, lever bent, etc. Yours is not the first gun with a sear release lever issue. You know how to remove the slide without out it. The lever is not a necessary item, as long as you use proper gun safety and make sure there is no round chambered, before using the trigger. I used my lever once, the first day, and it has never been moved since.

Could you move the lever once you got the slide off?
I use the lever every time. It's just safer than the trigger method.
This is definitely not normal nor common. Can you post a pic?

Sorry can't post pics. Once the pistol is apart I can move the lever down.

OK, when the slide is on are you trying to move the lever with your finger or are you using some kind of tool like a small stick?
I ask because I have trouble with my .40 when I try to use my finger, but I can do it.

Use the eraser end of a pencil. I hate trying to use the on-board "tool." It is difficult to remove and the more you remove it, the "looser" it seems to get.

I use the tool in the grip, to push it out.

Um, I'm a little confused now. The lever needs to be pushed down or forward depending on how you look at it. It doesn't need to be pushed back up because the magazine will do that for you.

I think I just really screwed up. Once the slide is locked back you have to push the sear lever down to disassemble the pistol without dry firing, correct? I thought the sear lever somehow[ I guess by magic], came down once you flipped the takedown lever. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Sorry everyone, the gun did shoot very well though.

It's all good Bodyguard. I've done stuff just like that. We're glad to have you as another M&P fan.
