Default M&P40c Jammed...

...at the range during an NRA Basic Pistol class. I was firing my gun with the range's ammo and had a FTF. Looked at gun and could see live round jammed between magazine and chamber. Neither the instructor or I could remove the round. Range's GS came over and was able to pull slide back far enough to release the round. Must have had much stronger fingers, huh! Question, could the jammed round have caused any damage? Can't see any but that's not to say there is not some unseen damage and I just don't know where to look. Thanks for your help.

Going under the assumption that the fresh cartridge failed to chamber because there was unejected spent brass... you should be fine and dandy. A cartridge getting hung up won't hurt your gun.

Just look at the chamber. Should be no damage.
This is the first time I can remember seeing M&P40c and jam in the same sentence.
Man. That's the gun I trust my life too.

Did you fire it after the jam was cleared? Did you save the offending round?

Everything looks okay. Gun fired normally (i.e. GREAT) after the jam and I am chalking this up to use of the range's ammo vs normal ammo. No idea where offending round went after it was cleared. Thanks for your help.

Default Laser sight

Used lasergrip on my M&P40c for the first time. WOW, what an improvement in my groupings. I bought the laser for use when there is no time for proper use of iron sights. Looks like LG-661 is going to be a great buy.
Purists Alert...I promise to turn laser off when target shooting

I'm curious, what did your NRA instructor say about the laser grips? I'm also an NRA Certified Pistol instructor which is why I ask.

My wife was the first to fire our gun that day and the NRA instructor advised her to ignore the laser's red dot. By the time I was on the line, he was off helping another student. So, I let 'er rip with the laser on. Man what a delight! I can see how valuable the laser will be in a moment of high anxiety.

So, he made no comments on using the laser other than ignoring it for a few shots? Hmm, I wish he had talked more about it. Didn't he go over the proper sight alignment and sight picture in the class? Did he tell her why he wanted her to use the sights?

The laser can encourage a shooter to focus on the target rather than the sights. This is a bad habit. If your groups improved with the laser, I guarantee I could help you get them even smaller by working with the sights.

The laser has its place, but it shouldn't be the main sighting device. I'm not suggesting you remove it, just to work with the sights more.

The basic pistol course is not a defensive course so, I guess I shouldn't be surprised he didn't cover that aspect of shooting.

I will rely on the laser ONLY when there is not time to properly use iron sights on the gun. In class, we went over sight picture and sight alignment with both instructors. One is a competition target shooter so he had some personal experiences to relate re: proper sighting.
