Trade my 6946 for a 9mm Shield? Would you?
I may have the opportunity to trade my 6946 for a 9mm Shield (unknown if safety or not).
Would you?
I know this is the plastic section, so you might be biased

I'd be reluctant...
I'd be reluctant to trade a third gen pistol for anything. Especially something you can find anytime. But if you have a definite use in mind, that would sway me.

I would not do that, as Shields can be had new for under $400.00; I bought two in 9mm. While not everybody likes the S&W DAO system, I do, and think your 6946 is a fine pistol. The DAO guns do not bring big money in my area. I carry a 3953.

I would not. Depending on condition and such I think the 6946 is worth a bit more than a new Shield at under $400...they may be close but the 6946 is never going to lose value and "they don't make 'em anymore."
Don't get me wrong on the Shield...I have a couple of M&P's and like them fine and while I don't have a Shield it's hugely successful and very well liked by owners.
In the end you're the one who has to be satisfied with the transaction and no one else. You didn't say if the Shield was new or used. Let us know what you decide.

No. While I would have no problem trading the 69 it wouldn't be for a Shield. The 69 is small already

Simple answer, NO. I have a 6906 in great condition and it is worth much more than either of my two Shields.

I have to agree with everyone else, its not worth trading a 3rd gen away. I traded for my Shield, but I traded away an LC9. Keep the 3rd gens.

I'd have to ask what your intended use is. If you're looking for a gun that you can bang around, suffer possible holster wear, etc, then the Shield is a great tool for that. I paid $359 (+ tax) for my Shield and I don't worry a bit about wear. It's a tool...a durn good tool, but a tool nonetheless.
I personally consider something like a 6946 to perhaps be something you'd not want to beat up as much.
