M&P Shield Recall - not Alone Now
Just learned both the 9mm and 45ACP Springfield XDs have been recalled. (certain serial numbers)
There is the possibility of an unintentional discharge and/or two rounds going off when the trigger is pulled once.
Wow.

I guess the XD is alone now because the Shield hasn't been recalled.

It really is ironic. When s&w issued its safety alert...XDs folks were saying glad I bought my XDs. Just leads me to believe there are no perfect guns especially mass produced ones...just great customer service. I know S&W has it. Now I know Springfield has it as well. Glad they are making it right.

So they got a full auto pistol at the price of a semi-auto. Where can i buy one of these
Luckily we never had that problem with our XDS in either the 45 or the 9mm. Glad we got rid of those things when we did.

Guns are only machines, boys.
They are all subject to failure.
Just like your car, your lawnmower, etc.

Yes, but there is a difference between a manufacturing defect and a design error.

Not sure why some people are so satisfied when something other than a shield has a recall. So what! I have both a shield and xds and like them both. My shield isn't affected by the s&w recall and still have to check my xds. I just don't cheer when a mfg has and issue. I think both s&w and Springfield are doing the right thing. They are taking care of any issues to make their products safe. Good for them.

Part of the recall notice:
Springfield has determined that under exceptionally rare circumstances, some 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm and .45ACP caliber pistols could experience an unintended discharge during the loading process when the slide is released, or could experience a double-fire when the trigger is pulled once. The chance of these conditions existing is exceptionally rare, but if they happen, serious injury or death could occur.
. . . .
What pistols are involved?
This Safety Recall applies only to:
Springfield 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm pistols - serial numbers between XS900000 and XS938700
Springfield 3.3 XD-S™ .45ACP pistols - serial numbers between XS500000 and XS686300.
This Safety Recall does not apply to any XD® or XD(M)® pistols.
