Default SHIELD RECALL VERSUS SPRINGFIELD XDs RECALL

We all know of the two recalls, or safety notice for the Shields. The Shield is a simple trigger safety that might stick back, which does not really matter, as it would be very hard to get the trigger to move without somehow contacting that lower trigger lever.

The Springfield recall is for 39,000 XDs 9mms' and 186,00 XDs 45 ACPs' is as follows:

"Springfield has determined that under exceptionally rare circumstances, some XD-S 9mm and .45ACP caliber pistols could experience an unintended discharge during the loading process when the slide is released, or could experience a double-fire when the trigger is pulled once. The chance of these conditions existing is exceptionally rare, but if they happen, serious injury or death could occur.”

So I wonder which is more serious, a sticking lower trigger safety, or a discharge when the slide slams closed or a possible double fire with a single trigger pull?? Maybe that's the new burst mode.

Bob

Smith and Wesson issued a safety alert, not a recall.

I'd guess if Springfield issued a recall, it's more serious,

Is the comparison to say, "Our recall/alert isn't as bad as Springfield's."?

Obviously, a sticking lower trigger presents less of an issue of safety or usability. However, I doubt S&W will print any advertisement saying, "Buy our guns because our screw-up is much less serious than Springfield's."

I'm not sure what the question is. I've seen a few talk about their triggers not bouncing back on their Shields, but have only seen one single report of the XDS issue before the recall even happened. I'm only guessing that SA was able to reproduce the malfunction and decided it would be better to change out a part or two on all of the effected guns.

Either way, today's manufactures are out to produce these small poly guns as fast as possible, especially now that the entire country has some form of carry. The XDS is also quite different than it's larger cousins. It's very Glock like.

I had a Shield 9, preferred the XDS 45, love my M&Ps, but it's not a competition or a reason to be pointing fingers at any one company since many have had recalls in the past few years. S&W is not without their faults and I've personally experienced a few of them.

Stripped out yolk screw on my still unfired (by me) S&W 500 that is still sitting at S&W. My original FS9 was very inaccurate even after 2 trips back to S&W where they adjusted the rear sight to shoot to far to the left and the second time was a barrel swap. The BG380s had firing pins breaking, although mine is still doing just fine.

Out of 7 XDs, 1 XDS and 1 XDM, this is the first time I've seen a recall and I've never had a single problem or malfunction with any of them.

Bottom line, many well known large manufactures have had issues.

"Recall" and "Safety Notice" are not synonyms.

Not even close.

The title is misleading.

The opening statement is misleading.

Sorry, Bob. It just burns my biscuits, especially when the GLock fan gets ahold of it.

Seems like no one can introduce a firearm these days without it being recalled within the first three years. My 25 + year old Ruger Police Service six just keeps going and going and going......

I really don't see any thing to make a big deal of - it is what it is and I have 2 Toyotas that were recalled too... My Shield is good to go and my XDS went FedEx last week. The Toyotas are already fixed.... just a sign of the times and the law suit happy society in which we live.
