Default Is this a defect on my FS M&P 9?

I haven't shot this gun for awhile, bought it in January, maybe 200 rounds through it.

Was taking it apart the other day and noticed this for lack of a better word " divot" in the metal right above the spring in the pictures

What is this part called and does it need a trip to S&W?

That is a pretty common thing on M&P's and it has no affect on the gun.

Something else to note: On your takedown lever you see that little burr left from the manufacturing process? That burr will catch on your return spring and cause the take down lever to pop back up sometimes.

You can easily file that burr off and the takedown lever will work much better.

I thought just the compacts suffered with that affliction, but it makes sense that they all would have it.

A little bump on the takedown lever where it rides under the recoil spring...

It may actually be a defect, but, as Lost Lake said, it's not an issue.

That portion of the trigger assembly is where the lug of the barrel rides. It pushes up on the barrel lug and is part of the lock up. As long as the gun closes smoothly, it's a non-issue.

There are many such things on the M&P. It is at the lowest end of quality guns. As such, there are all kinds of machine marks, casting marks, molding marks that don't get removed. The idea here is, don't look too closely at your gun. You might think something is bad when it is not.

The only time it needs to go back to S&W is when it doesn't feed, eject or fire. Otherwise just be happy.

Depending on when you bought your FS you might have the newer take down lever. Im not sure when the change happened but it was early last year if I remember correctly.

If it stays down dont change anything.

I bought it in January of this year but I believe the "born" date was October of 2012
