I think I am going to try and IWB from PJ Holsters for my Shield. I want to try the Kydex IWB before I spring for a leather holster. I am 5'10" 178lb. I emailed Paul and he said he thought the standard 15 degree cant would work fine for me vs. the deep conceal 30 degree.

I am wondering if it's worth getting the .060" kydex with double thick belt loop or just stick with the standard .080" kydex. It's +$10 to go thinner with the double thick loop, but I could get the loop in chocolate brown since I typically wear a brown leather belt.

What do you think?

I've got the standard on two PJ holsters and never had a problem.

The kydex taco type holster with one belt connection work fine for smaller guns. I'd think it would be fine for a shield. I have this style (not the same maker) for a cm9 and a xds.

As far as cant goes, typically you start out with a lower degree of cant at 3 o'clock and may require more cant as you go back further on the belt. The idea is to provide enough cant so you do not have to contort your arm/shoulder as much to draw.

If your handgun's grip is long you may need a bit more cant if your body can not hide the end. So that depends on how much girth you have to work with.

The problems I have had with this style of holster is with one belt connection it can walk on the belt as you move during the day and may require adjustments throughout the day. When I wore this style all day I ended up wanting a bit more cushion effect so I now go with a kydex/leather hybrid, but that is my preference.

I would save the $10 and get all one size kydex. The size difference it not all that much.

If you never tuck then it does not matter what the color of the clip is versus your belt as it should be in the shadows. If you are getting a tuckable version, then you should probably try to get it to match the belt or a belt to match the holster.

I prefer the over the belt clip since it makes it easier to take on and off. The j-hook in a tuckable variant serves those times you need to tuck, but it hangs on the pant's waist line instead of the belt so a wee bit less support. For a shield sized gun it would probably be ok.

I ordered one for my shield

I'm a big fan of PJ Holsters. I got one for my Shield and liked it so much I got another for my SR40c which is quite a bit larger and heavier than the Shield. Both holster fit great and are very comfortable. Both are IWB and one is the tuckable version. You won't be disappointed IMHO.

Paul Giannaula makes good holsters, he has fair prices and reasonable delivery times. Personally, I think kydex is a better material for an IWB holster as it is stronger than leather of the same thickness, and therefore, can be made thinner and still remain open while the weapon is out of the holster, making replacement of the firearm easier.

I think that you will love the holsters from PJHolster.

Questions about Concealed Carry holsters for the M&P Shield show up often on the forum.

Here in Florida it's hot and humid so shorts and a tee or tank are common. I carry concealed with an Old Faithful IWB with the Shield, M&P40c and M&P40fs. BTW, A good belt is important to comfort. It does not have to be leather but... it needs to support the weight of the holster, weapon, and all the stuff (extra mags, flashlight, cellphone, knife, OC spray, etc.) you might want to carry around your waist.

I got a PJ tuckable holster for a Ruger LC9 just a standard thickness and cant with a J hook. The holster holds the pistol securely and while being light the holster is stiff enough and has sufficient support from the waist band of my shorts and slacks.

I like the Kydex since it is thinner than leather and does not hold moisture. I have used leather holster and they can be uncomfortable against the skin once wet from sweat.

I've had PJ tuckable deep conceal about a month now...carried at 4oclock it fits my frame comfortably (5'-10", 210#). Several stretches during the day I forget it's there.

The only drawback for me is that deep in the waistband at 4oc the end of the barrel is right at the top of my back pocket, and can interfere slightly with access to my wallet... a trade off I've come to live with/work around-

Quality made and worth the wait, IMO...

PJ holsterd make great great IWB holster for the Shield I have a carbon Fiber for my Shield 9mm,, Like it so much i ordered one for my 40c.

Foxx Holsters also make a great IWB as well I have one of those for my Glock 36

FYI----Ordered a OWB for a Shield last night, received the confirmation from Paul that there is a 10-12 week wait, business is good.

Cooks Holsters also makes a Kydex holster for the Shield-both IWB and OWB. I have two of them and they are very much like the PJ Holsters. However, his wait is only about 4 weeks right now.

I have PJ'd holsters for my 340 snubbie, Kahr PM9, and Shield all standard thickness and they have never given me any trouble. Great products that I cannot say enough good about.

I'm sure glad PJ is a brand of holster. I looked at the title and thought someone was asking about a holster to wear with their pajamas

I ended up deciding on holster by JM Custom and am waiting for it. Tony is awesome to deal with and replies really fast to his email. I was recommended him because his holsters pull the gun into the body pretty well and his iwb doesn't shift around throughout the day. He will make tuckable loops for you if you want as well. If you are female, let him know as he makes female holsters a bit differently. He has a bunch of kydex colors as well.
