M&P Shield failure to return to battery/light primer strike
Well, I finally found a shield with issues, .40 caliber. A friend of mine owns a .40 shield that had a light primer strike today at the range, upon closer examination if you do a press check the slide will not fully return to battery on the slide (I believe this may be the cause of the light primer strike experienced). Ammo used was WWB and to top it off, one of the white inserts on the rear sight fell out, but that's another issue...
So does anyone have any idea of what the culprit may be? Striker assembly? Slide? Recoil spring? This was the first round of a full mag, 6 round magazine, so maybe magazine spring?

Has it done that with any ammo besides WWB? The very first time I took my M&P 40 to the range I had several times when it wouldn't return to battery. I was shooting 165 grain Fiocchi FMJ. Once I finished that box of ammo I switched to 165 grain Blazer and it functioned just fine. Since that time I've put hundreds of rounds through it with no problems. WWB, Blazer, PMC, Federal FMJ, American Eagle, various different kinds of high dollar JHP ammo all feed flawlessly through it. I haven't tried any more Fiocchi so I don't know if the problem was the Fiocchi or the fact that the gun was brand new and may have needed a few rounds to get it broken in. I suspect it was the ammo though since, as I say, the gun's been completely reliable otherwise.

let the slide slingshot back. The clearances are pretty tight from the factory. My 9mm was the same until a few rounds down the tube. It will work itself out. I like the frog lube also. This is a Great firearm. Seem to hit the little red dot quit often. XS big dots help.

I have a friend that has a 9mm Shield with the same issue. I've posted about it here before. This happens almost every magazine she runs through it. It has something to do with her grip or hand strength. I've tried to re-create this by limp-wristing on purpose, and cannot make it happen for me. Has anyone else tried to shoot it?

Hi
I guess my first question is why do a press check?? I know the reason we do a press check (To make sure there is a loaded chamber) BUT the shield comes with a loaded chamber indicator (Peep hole) on the barrel/slide. This allows you to peak in and see if there is a loaded round.
Anytime you intentionally take the slide out of battery you risk the chance of a malfunction. Insert a Magazine sling shot the slide, remove magazine top off the mag re insert.
Your Good to Go. The white dot falling out is pretty common with the shield, Should not happen after being on the market for almost 2 years, But its not a catastrophic failure its more annoying.
Actually I replaced the shield with some 10-8 rear all black and ameriglo front sight Its a great combination for a EDC gun.Just my 2 cents

Double check your recoil spring...there have been issues with the spring...when installing it check the spring, it will bow sometimes instead of laying flat...mine did this and the slide would not return to the full forward position. Have about 400 rounds through it now and the spring works good now when I reinstall it after cleaning
