This is what I've heard from every Taurus Pistol owner I've known. I wouldn't hesitate to get a Taurus Revolver, but there are WAY too many good reliable pistols on the market to trust a Taurus Pistol, without first shooting it.

Had my Shield for over 3yrs now, with over 7K rounds through it (and still running the original RSA, too) and it's been flawless.
Like I wrote... There are way to many reliable pistols on the market to waste my time trying a Taurus... Even a G2.

I haven't fired my PT-111 G-2 in over a year, so I brought it to the range this week. I almost forgot how reliable and sweet it is.

I vote for the Shield. My brother was looking for the small compact gun. Being a Shield fan, I told him to get one. He got the Taurus instead. We shot his gun first then my Shield. He immediately said he should've listened. I found a used Shield at a local gun store for $329. Three mags and night sights. Four months old according to the fired shell in the box. Long story short he got the Shield and couldn't be more happy. I was a little jealous of the deal and I think the gun store clerk was too. He didn't know it came with all those goodies. Until I said it had nite sights.

I recently chose the G2 over the shield for quite a few reasons and posted about it here. Got some people giving me **** while others understood.

The reliable nature of this gun is well documented now. I just went to the range today and it was flawless. Gave it a good cleaning after. Hell, there are even steel guide rods available now if you choose you want to go that route.

I purchased a Taurus Millennium G2 two months ago. Palmetto had them on sale for $199. I bought it as a cheap truck gun that if stolen, wouldn't break the bank. Based on all the written reviews and YouTube videos, it was an "exception" to the Taurus sometimes poor quality reputation. So for $200 I gave it a try.

When I received the gun I cleaned it and lubed it. To date I have put 425 rounds of FMJ ammo through it with no failures at all. It feels great in the hand, holds 12 rounds in the magazine, and has a great trigger that I like as I am used to a long take up with very clean break. It is very, very accurate too.

I am not going to compare it to any other pistol as that never works well on the internet and is a futile discussion. But I am very happy with the quality and performance of my G2 and it adequately fulfills the need that I bought it for.

Written by a man with many more Smith & Wesson pistols than I need. And we all know that in itself is impossible!!

For the money I would rather have the Millennium G2 and stick the extra $100+ in my pocket. I've sold many of both and have never got any bad results from any G2s but the Shields have been picky digesting cheap ammo from what I hear. One buyer called S&W and complained the pistol would not function and was immediately asked what kind of ammo was he using, when told, they told him to buy premium brand ammo and it would fix the problem - it did. Also the .40 Shield is not nearly as accurate as the 9mm. Which is logical due to the greater power, all lightweight pistols will suffer including the Taurus but it seems excessive with the Shield. The G2 will fire anything you feed it.

The only way you get proficient with a firearm is practice. When you have to pay a premium for practice ammo getting proficient with the Shield. it relates to another price increase. If you need the conceal- ability the Taurus will work better. If you need home protection and C&C is not a factor and looking for economy S&W SD9VE is a value and a better gun.

I have helped many newbie at the range trying to get their Taurus to cycle. Some experienced people seem to like their Taurus and of course that is fine, but if you have to ask, and you are newer to the hobby, you are very likely better off with an S&W IMHO.

The Shield is a subcompact and I don't see the comparison to the compact G2. The G2 compares to the S&W 9C, as they both hold 12+1. I own both and like to shoot both, they are very accurate. For $250, the G2 is the best value in a 9mm compact and hard to justify spending $500 for a 9C.
