Default Date of manufacture

First, welcome to the Forum.

Second, if you have the box, there should be a four-digit number on label on the end of the box.
The number indicates the date of manufacture - the first number is the year and the next three numbers are the day.
It is assumed that you know the decade of manufacture.

My M&P reads 3017 - the 017th day of 2013 - January 17, 2013.

It's the four-digit number underneath the six-digit SKU number.

Do you have all of the paperwork?
Is the factory-fired casing still in the box? If so, what is the test-fire date? That will be very close to the day of manufacture.

I can't say if that six-digit number is the date. I don't know.

The 6 digit number is the SKU (or product identifier), not a date. If you look at the picture that Hillbilly77 posted the date code should be directly below the SKU

The labels changed somewhere along the line. The top box is my 9FS, the bottom is my 9C. You can see the format of the dates is different.

The dates on both match the test fire dates.

The date on my 9C (lower in pic above), does match the test fire date.

The date on the lil yellow case packaging is the test fire date, not necessarily the date it was manufactured. My 9c I purchased in November of 2012,on the pistol case is 2310 and fired casing is 11/6/12. If I calculated right, 310th day off the year in 2012 is Nov 5th.

Question Date codes

I also have a 6 digit code of 100113. The test fire date is Oct. 1 2013. They must have changed the way they date code.

Default My numbers don't seem to match up

From the thread I should either be using the 6 digit or 4 digit numbers on my label but niether seem to match up to a date.

Under "SKU"
150732

And under that - 9334

I bought it as police trade in earlier this year.

Thanks!

Default I'm a DA :-)

I just reread one of the comments "assumes you know the decade". That would make mine 2009 day 334 or November 30th.

Looks like I'll need to buy an eXtra part before I get my gun Apexed.

Yes... Some time in Mid 2013, they changed from the 4 digit format, to a 6 Digit MMDDYY Format.

I personally wish one could delete the reset "improvement."

My 1911s nor S&W have it and I was/am perfectly happy. First time I fired a Glock I said, "what's that clicking?"

I recently purchased/traded for my first m&p. I have a 9c with the flat dark earth finish frame but it was used and I have no original box or paperwork, the serial number starts with HVW if someone could help me with the manufacture date it would be greatly appreciated.

JamesCFH...
The Serial Number has little to do with the Date of manufacture (as far as a 'built in secret code'). Call or email S&W Customer Support. They can tell you when it rolled off the line.

My BODYGUARD 380 purchased in 2018 has the six didget # 050715 on the box label and the test fire date on the envelope as May 7, 2015. These agree.
My M&P Shield 9mm 01 purchased early Jan. 2020 has a six didget # 071119. There was no test fire round in the box or envelope. However I believe this is the date of manufacture July 11, 2019 because this pistol is the 01 model 9mm Shield it has the newer 02 model barrel in it which one can tell by the font style of 9MM stamped on top of the barrel. So while the body of the pistol is the old 01 model the newer 02 model barrel was used in assembly in 2019. That's the way I interpret it anyway.
