Exclamation Bullets nose dive on M&P9 during a speed reload

On the M&P pistol if you run dry, and you insert a new mag fast/hard enough it should release the slide, and the gun should be g2g...

Could do it all day long on my M&P45 I had. I tired it tonight with my M&P9 full-size and the rounds nose dived into the feed ramp. Tried several different ammos and the same deal. I can power stroke the gun and it goes back into battery. Something I learned about this particular pistol. Is the gun broken? No. Should I rely on this method of reloading? No.

odd, I reload my 9 and 40 like that all the time. Is the feedramp chipped or rough? Does it do it only with hollowpoints or RN too? My Ruger LC9 had that same issue but only with HP

Think I figured out what was going on... When smacking the magazine into the well I was hitting the back part of the mag. If I hit on the front part of the mag it wouldn't jam. Did it with all the ammo that I was having issues with and it went home 100% of the time. So it wasn't the gun's fault. Operator error.

Good to know. I think I will try it on my 9c. I have some dummy rounds (bullets and brass, no primer or powder) that I won't mind playing with in the house.

Although my 45C does that, my 9C never has. Look around and you will find a thread where folks were asking if they should return their 45's to have this "defect" fixed!

I don't know if the M&P's were designed this way or if, on some, it is a happy accident. I do know that I do not count on the slide automatically releasing when I insert a magazine. If it does, fine. If it does not, I'm not disappointed.

The slide closing on inserting a new mag is not a "feature" that was designed into the gun. In fact, it shouldn't do it. Even so, most of us don't mind when it happens.

Does your gun do the nose dive only with flat point or hollow point rounds? Will it do it with hardball ammo?
