M&P 9C Damaged
Hello everyone. New to the M&P world here. Just picked up my first (M&P 9C) and I am very excited to get out and start practicing with it.
I was cleaning it before use as per the manuals instructions. I noticed that the locking block appears to be worn unevenly and have a metal burr in the center. The burr can be seen by the shiny part in the picture. The barrel rests/rubs against this burr and it is causing some wear on the barrel. It hasn't even been fired yet, so I am not sure how this part would already be worn other then coming from the factory like that. I didn't notice it until I was carefully inspecting the gun when cleaning.
I emailed S&W and sent them a picture, and they told me to send it in for inspection. It was a generic response and doesn't really seem like they looked at the pic. I talked to a buddy with a M&P 40 and he seems to think it is fine. I'd hate to needlessly send it in and miss out on my first range trip this weekend if it looks normal. What do you guys think? I searched quite a bit but couldn't find anyone reporting anything similar.

Just looked at mine and it has a similar mark...and mine is 7 years old with a couple of thousand rounds through it without a failure of any kind. Personally I would say don't worry about it...put a couple of hundred rounds through it and see what happens. Just my $0.02.....

To me it looks like a nub left after removing an injection molding sprue.

M&P 9C Damaged
Looks normal to me....
I have no idea what my round count is, but I've never had a single issue with this gun.
It's a spot where two pieces of steel contact each other, so there's bound to be a little sign of wear.
If it makes you feel better, put a tiny dab of oil or grease on that spot.
P.S.
Welcome to the Forum.

All of mine have it, one of my pistols only has 4000 rounds through it and I have one with over 25000 rounds and they all look the same.
Edit, I've added a picture of my pistol that has between 25k and 30k rounds. Don't think you have much to worry about.

The MIM locking blocks often have such markings left over from the manufacturing process.
Here's a couple of different caliber/model M&P locking blocks from my parts, which show some different amount of such markings left over from manufacturing. I've seen both "better" & "worse", too.

That is perfectly normal. It appears that you are cursed with a Massachusetts trigger spring too.

We see this question from time to time and usually from new guys. When I bought my first gun I had similar questions. Unfortunately, I didn't have an internet connection at that time.
It really is just part of the manufacturing process.

Thank you everyone. I looked at everyone's pictures and mine looks 100% exactly like Bkreutz's. Doesn't seem to be any need to send to S&W.

Yup! .... though I don't mind the heavy pull for now as it has no safety. How did you know? Red spring?

Yes sir, I lived in Massachusetts and have replaced many of those red springs for friends and on my own guns.
