Default truglo tfo's?

I'm looking around at different sights for my new shield. I like the look of the TFO's but I read a ton of stories of them breaking when I looked into them. Most of the things I was reading were from a few years back. Have they changed anything to make that fiber optic stay in there?

A used M&P 40 that I got a couple years ago had a set of TFO's and I didn't like them because of the reports of them been fragile. In my opinion there are much better sights out there.

I put a set on my Shield/40 and like them a lot. Few years back I had a set of TFO's on my Glock 23c which also performed extremely well. Never had any problems whatsoever and they really light up well.

So, you didn't like them because other people didn't like them?

so far so good with me. I've got them on my Shield 9mm and a couple Glocks.
Only thing is, you can't do a one handed slide rack using your belt.

I did not like them because of the way they are made, I use them for a while and after a couple of cleanings the front sight after been exposed to solvent became bridle and the FO broke a flew off while shooting. This confirm the feedback from other people that I came across.

not a fan of the TFO's. i work part time at a LGS and we have replaced a bunch over the last year. solvent seems to be the culprit, followed by abuse. i love the xs big dots... that said i am far sighted, and they are not a marksman's sight. rather a combat type which suits me better. they too have had failures though...

I have 2,129 rounds through my M&P .45 and I have TFOs. I put them on around the 700 round mark. So far, I have no issues with them and they are much easier to use than other sights I've tried. If they made them for more guns I would have them on every handgun I own.

The problem of the tube being abused with solvent is easy to avoid; don't put solvent on them. Use Frog Lube for your gun and then it won't matter if you get some on the light pipe.

Is your .45 (with the tfo's) holstered a lot or is it in a safe? I always have wondered if tfo's were strong enough for a holster. Kinda wondering if people MAY be having problems with them breaking due the constant in & out of holsters. (just a thought)

Excellent question. The short answer is no, I don't holster it a lot.

My primary gun is a 1911. I use that for teaching, classes and general carry. It sees a lot of use. I have a holster for the M&P .45 and have practiced with it and attended a 4 day class with it. So, it has seen a bunch of holster work, but not enough in my opinion to base a conclusion on.

The light pipes in the TFOs are well protected. The are fully encased in steel with only a little bit exposed. I seriously doubt that they would suffer any damage from holstering.

The TFO's are great sights but my TFO's on my M&P9 threw the front fiber optic less than a year after I installed them. Replacing the fiber optic on the TFO's is much more difficult than on a traditional fiber optic sight. The rear sights seem to be much more robust in terms of retaining the fiber optic inserts.

I have them on a few guns now and more to follow. Not one issue yet. They're super bright in the daytime and even better at night in my opinion. I've heard about the front pipe coming out. seems a lil dab of clear super glue would remedy that though. + keep the solvent off them if you think that's a problem. $74.00 is hard to beat in my book.
