Default Alternative to Sticky Grips for Shield

I've looked at all types of grip for Shield from “rubber-band” type where you slide it over the gun's grip to sticky sheet such as Talon, tractionsgrips, sandpaperpistolgrips. I ran into these as I was at Home Depot the other day and found it on Amazon.

They are called - Seal Krete 40202 Clear Grip Non-Skid Grip Additive for Sealers, Paints & Epoxies (Amazon.com: Seal Krete 40202 Clear Grip Non-Skid Grip Additive for Sealers, Paints & Epoxies: Home Improvement@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41oVV6%2B3dKL.@@AMEPARAM@@41oVV6%2B3dKL)

I remember reading it somewhere that the sticky type grip added .041” of thickness, I’m not sure how it feels and would it still allow fit Crimson Trace LG-489 mounted?

So mine thought is that mixing a clear-coat paint with the Non-Skid Grip Additive, then paint the Shield (wherever traction is needed).

My concern here is will the mixed solution will Bond to the gun’s polymer? And/or will it end up Damage the gun more?
Please let me know if this is bad idea and I should step away from it. Your comments is appreciated.

If it were my gun, I would keep looking for another alternative. I would not do that to my gun

I agree, just try the Talons I have them on all of my guns and they really aren't "sticky" and if you don't like them they peel off without any damage to the stock surface...Go with the rubber and not the sandpaper type

Thank you for your replies. Yes, indeed I have my eyes on the Rubber grip type but my only concern here: is that will the Talon Rubber grip interfere with mounting of C/T Laser? It doesn't look like there is any room underneath the trigger guard (where the C/T laser meet the gun's grip) to fit the rubber grip.

Talon has really responsive customer service. You might try calling or emailing them. I bet they would tell you if it works or not.

Talon grips are great....BUT I would highly recommend the sandpaper type. They are not too rough, and they provide very good traction. Plus, they are cheap, so you could get some of both and see which you like best.

I just installed the Talon grips "sandpaper" style on my Shield and I love them. I had the rubber type on my Nano previously, and I prefer the extra traction and feel of the rougher sandpaper type personally.

I used tractiongrips (which are similar to talon). I tried both the rubber and grit and I prefer the rubber. The grit tore up my hands. I even put some on the slide to make it easier to rack.

I just used a product called Sugru to modify the grip on my Ruger Mark III Target pistol. I wanted a support for my trigger finger for consistent positioning.

The black Sugru matched perfectly the silicone color of the Hogue target grip, and is a fairly close match for the M&Ps.

I was also able to texture it once I got the shape I wanted, in this case using a plastic tube from an air-duster can. You actually have a fair amount of working time to get it right. I used non-acetone nail-polish remover to clean the grip surface first, and a water-wet finger to smooth things out.

The only problem is that Sugru is a bit expensive. This support took nearly a whole 5g packet, though it is thicker than you'd likely want to customize a the body of the grip. You'd probably use three or more packets for a Shield grip.

If you do an Internet search you'll find several examples for using Sugru for pistol grips, including some simple ways to texture it.

Thank you - this stuff looks good. I'll look into this more.

If you're wanting an add on grip for function and not cosmetics, I'm quite happy with the bicycle inner tube (1.75") method. One inner tube from Walmart or where ever will do a dozen pistols for less than $5. You can trim the rubber to fit around a Crimson Trace.

I love my Talon granulate grips, I have them on my Shield and my 9C. They are inexpensive so I would get a set and if they interfere with the Crimson Trace just trim them.

I have a rubber sleeve style grip on mine. It works great for me. And as far as the laser sight any of tge grips mentioned will work with it. All you need is a razor blade and take your time and it will look great.

You could just get this done and be done with it.

Thanks Bob, I tried the bicycle tube on my Shield, much better grip. Added it to my BG380 too. Great idea and good fit.
