Frame and slide play( movement)
I just recently bought a shield 9mm for my birthday I have shot about 45 rounds out of it flawlessly but today I noticed a lateral play between the slide and the frame mainly in the front of the gun is that normal ?

All perfectly normal. The slide sits up high on the rails and barely touches the frame. That's one reason why they don't need much lube to keep on running. A little slide play is normal and doesn't hurt the accuracy, because the slide, the barrel, and the sights are all locked in line when the cartridge goes bang.

A second to 'its normal'.
I love M&P. Fits me and works fine.
I am a long time 1911 fan. One cannot compare M&P to hand fitted steel frame weapons, but one can't compare oranges to apples either.
Enjoy your toy or tool, whichever it is for you.

Even with a 1911, the barrel to slide fit is way more important than the slide to frame. On an M&P, consistent lockup of barrel to slide is your accuracy.

It's defective. You must now ship it to me for disposal. Jk. Like everyone said, it's normal. Enjoy your Shield.

The slide play is normal for not only the Shield but for all of the modern polymer frame pistols. The play results in reliable functioning. As the others have said, accuracy comes from barrel to slide lock up. The gap between slide and frame is normal on these type of pistols too. Bill

While I do agree the mp 2.0 compact when dry firing the rear of the slide shifts right causing shots to go left. To remedy this issue I had to driftmy rear sight a few mm over to ledt
