Default APEX USB for Shield

I'm in the process of upgrading my Shield sights and am thinking the APEX Talon Tactical Tool might be nice, but also the USB (since I'll be in there anyways). If I just install the USB, will I notice a difference in trigger feel (it sounds like it helps with "grittiness")? Also, as many of you are similarly concerned, I don't want to void my warranty, but getting at the USB isn't entirely as easy as other "drop in" parts. If there was ever a problem with my Shield is it conceivable it'd be related to the USB (an upgraded part) or is this modification pretty reliable?

It is my understanding that the Apex Tactical USB works best with their fully machined sear. Together, they help reduce the grittiness of the uptake and should smooth out the trigger release plus bring the trigger pull down to about 4.5 lbs. Why they sell them as individual parts and not as a combo is a bit of a puzzle to me. To my knowledge, Apex parts are extremely reliable and have caused no problems. If you call Apex, I am sure they can tell you what the benefits are for a USB only installation.

The USB is easy to install once the rear sight is out. Getting the rear sight off has been very difficult for many do-it-yourselfers. Once you are there, it's a good idea to make sure there are no machining burrs between the striker channel and the striker block hole.

You don't have to lose your warranty if you keep the original parts and reinstall them if you ever need to send your firearm to S&W.

+1....I have apex kits in my shield 9 & 9C. Buy the entire kit, you won't regret it. I live in Massachusetts and triggers are 10.5#'s so you can imagine my delight after installing these kits. Brought it down to 5.5#'s

I like my kit. It's the only M&P style gun I've altered. The trigger is almost too "good" for a carry gun. The trigger is fantastic, but has a very short take up and can surprise you the first few rounds after you've changed it.

My Shield sights were a ridiculous pain to change. S&W did a lousy machining job and it was milled poorly, it took a steel punch to get them out. They actually put a notch in a brass punch. On top of it all, some genius at the factory put a ton of red locktite not just on the set screw, but the sight itself. S&W should be ashamed of the lack of consistent quality control on these guns. As a note, if you look at my posts in the past, I'm an ardent S&W/new gun defender, but this is an exception for me. I love the gun now, but it was so much trouble to fix, it almost was not worth it. As an aside, I changed the sights on another M&P in about 10 minutes. I'd like to say my experience was unusual, but if you Google it, you see it was not.

The Talon tool is a help to catch the spring, but not an absolute have to.

I absolutely love my Apex Sear and USB. it made a huge difference for me...still a bit of grittiness there, but nothing that I can't live with....Im thinking...a few hundreds rounds and I think all will be well.
Im thinking of doing the new trigger as well.

I have the kit installed in my shield, minus the trigger spring, and am very pleased. Everyone who shoots my Shield is amazed how great it feels. Right at 5.5lbs and no grit. A buddy is dumping his SCCY and getting a shield after shooting mine - I told him he will have to get the kit to make his feel like mine does lol.
