I have an APEX aluminum trigger in my compitition full size M&P9. I had issues reaching the trigger saftey with my index finger even with the small back strap and it created a heavy almost two stage feel when trying to take up the trigger before the trigger saftey would disengage. So I shortened the back end of the saftey and the trigger pull it great but now you can trip the trigger with out engaging the saftety with about 10 pounds of pressure.

Its not a saftey issue for me since I keep my tigger finger clear until I'm on target, but I'm not satisfied with the fact that it can be fired with out the saftey tripped.

Has anyone else ran into this problem? How did you solve it?

I plan on ordering replacement parts from APEX, but I don't want to end up repeating the problem a second time.

Get the Apex trigger. It has a shorter take-up and you should be just fine with your smaller fingers.

Um, he has the Apex trigger. That's why he's asking. Maybe you meant to say, get the Apex Forward Set Sear(FSS) kit?

The FSS kit does move the trigger back a noticeable amount. It removes most of the slack and all of the over travel. It is a marvelous improvement to the M&P trigger and may solve your issue with being able to reach the trigger fully.

For the record, m1garand_man, you have essentially disabled the trigger safety by filing on it. That safety is also a drop safety if the gun is dropped on its back. I think you are wise to replace it.

By disabling the safety you have voided any warranty from S&W. Also if you are involved in any kind of shoot by defense or accidental, you could be in trouble. Trust me, I went through this. I just changed out the trigger on my Glock. I was accused of creating a dangerous weapon!. Get it fixed!

I know and I plan on replacing it. I dont think I can combine parts from the FSS with parts from my AEK that I already have in the gun. Also they say that the trigger I have is not compatible with the FSS.

Yeah, it's unfortunate, but the FSS has to be ordered as a kit by itself. So, you're looking at $165 to fix this issue. Of course you could get the polymer FSSand that would only cost $135.

yeah but I dont think the FSS will work with the compitition AEK. because I thought they were two different sears and obviously you can only have one sear in the gun. Maybe I'll just go back to the ****** stock trigger. At least it worked.

That is correct. You can't have two sears and the FSS won't work with the AEK sear. So what? Just put the FSS, including the sear that comes with it, into the gun. It is a much better trigger.

Call the folks at Apex before you do anything more. They are quite helpful and you have made a dangerous mistake modifying their part. The FSS (Forward Set Sear) trigger puts the trigger FARTHER FORWARD. It sounds like you have small hands like me and the longer reach FSS trigger. I have the Apex polymer AEK trigger on my gun and it works great. Either the Poly or the metal AEK trigger SHOULD work for you. Call Apex and find out if you have done anything to prevent that from working.

Yes, if you are sloppy about finger placement on the trigger it can "catch" and hang up slightly. I've done it , too. It's not the trigger's fault. It's the shooter's. But DO NOT EVER take material off of a safety on a gun, especially not a gun you might ever shoot in a defensive situation. The legal quagmire of issues that modification creates are a lot more expensive than paying a trained gunsmith to fix your gun. Your gun is now a whole lot more dangerous to re-holster when loaded, too. Your APEX trigger is now dangerous, possibly illegal trash. Take it off and put the stock trigger back on your gun until you get professional advice on what else you can safely do.

No, this is completely wrong. It moves the trigger further back.

I have installed this kit so, I know this for a fact. It moves the sear break point forward which has the effect of moving the trigger back.

I wont ever use this gun for self defenses just like an ipsc guy back in the day would more than likely never use thier race gun for self defense. Basically I do not want to spend more money on a FSS that may or may not work for me so I'll just chalk this up to an expensive mistake (buying and then attempting to install not realizing there was an instructional video) and toss the thing in the trash

Still couldn't hurt to give Apex a call and tell them of your experiences (cost you a little time). They may surprise you with some advice (or some free parts). You won't know unless you ask.

Minimize the variables

Well Apex said they could send me a preplacement trigger for $49.99 so I figured before I got another I would try one more time to fix the one I have. What did I have to loose? Well I steepened the angle on the part of the trigger saftey that contacts the frame and guess what? That fixed it. So I got it to work with the compitition AEK.
