Hi everyone new to the forum. My wife ordered a m&p shield a week ago and it finally came in yesterday. After I picked it up I just happened to see the ma approved printed on the box along with 10.5# trigger. I live in wv so I didn't need the ma approved one but she didn't know there was difference. Is there a way I can switch this back to a stock 6 to 6.5lb pull without having to pay 90 bucks for and apex kit. Not asking for a super smooth light trigger just stock would be just fine.

I don't need a MA compliant trigger but you got me thinking about it. I just did a quick search for a parts list. All I came up with was the full size M&P. I'll search more later. It seems to me that it shouldn't be hard and I was thinking maybe the parts list might show two numbers for part "x", one for MA and the other. It couldn't be that easy, could it? It's worth investigating.

Did you buy the gun in MA? Maybe ordered it from a shop in MA?

If you bought it from a WV gun store, take it back. If you bought it online, contact the seller if it wasn't disclosed as a MA trigger.

Personally, I would find a way to return / swap out the pistol with one that isn't MA compliant.

I would sell a kidney if I had to, but just get the Apex trigger kit and be done with it. In the end you're gonna do it anyway.

My wife ordered it thru buds guns. It was disclosed that it was a ma compliant gun but I was I ignorant to the fact that the trigger had to be above 10lbs i figured it was a mag capacity thing. So technically it was my fault.

Still, try to exchange it. Paying for the shipping would be less than any other additional cost.

However, I absolutely agree that if this is to be a shooter rather than a nightstand relic, you will not regret getting the Apex kit. Just figure it as part of the cost of the gun. Just like a hunting rifle needs a scope, many M&P's need Apex.

Just swapping out a trigger return spring to get a lighter pull may still leave you with a gritty, hitchy trigger that is hard to shoot well. Both the sear and the striker block from Apex are superior to the stock S&W geometry.

This happens all the time. While only guns made for Mass can be sold there, They can be sold anywhere as long as they are compliant with that state's laws. So if a dealer is waiting on guns that are on back order, the distributor can send them Mass, or Ca guns, as they are legal to sell there. I own a M&P40c that was made in 2009, & sold in Atlanta, but it is a Ca compliant gun. [Mag safety thing] While my gun was not required to be sold in Ga, there must have been a shortage of no compliance guns, so they took the gun I got. Most of the times a dealer doesn't even know this happened. Where I work, if we order 5 40c's, & get them where some are Ma compliant, & others Ca. compliant, they still go in the 40c pile to be sold. SKU numbers mean nothing. We ordered 5 40c's, & that's what we received. Another good reason to purchase guns in person at a LGS, or gun show. This way the buyer can visually inspect what he has before forking out the cash. While this might cost a little more, it's worth it to get the gun you really want. GARY

Apex sells a spring kit only, about $25. That should give you around a 5 to 5.5 pound pull. They are very familiar will all M&P specifics. Give them an email to make sure that the striker spring pressure isn't also increased, to give the MA compliant 10 pound pull.

Nobody has parts removed from their gun they could sell this guy? I'm keeping mine stock or I'd sell him mine.
