Got mine today too but am just getting back home for the day. I think I'm going to try it in my FS 45 tomorrow.
We'll see. Color me skeptical. I'm still all about, "Why?"
It sure would be nice if we could all congregate in this thread with our comments. Good title and it keeps it all in one concise place.

Got mine today. I have to say the craftsmanship, fit, and finish are superb. Very easy to install. I felt that it is more comfortable than the stock release. Great product LFArms! Thanks Trevor for letting me try it out. www.lf-arms.com

I would be concerned with it hitting the holster and releasing the mag. Nothing says safety like pulling out your CC gun, and having the mag fall out.

I would say that it is more practical as a target or competition mod than a cc mod.

Another thing to consider if you're doing competition is to look at the rules for the sanctioning body. I can tell by looking at the pictured mag release that it wouldn't be allowed in IDPA SSP, (but then the Apex trigger already bumps it to ESP so it wouldn't matter).

i don't shoot competition so i'm not familiar with the rules. mostly shoot at my range with a few friends. the rules there are bring what you got and be safe.
i don't se the purpose of it for cc. how many people cary extra mags for cc? it may work for cc depending on the holster or cary position.

Hence that little warning on the side of my gun a lot of people hate. Capable of firing w/o mag. (I don't see the message from my angle). LOL
I got 1 round to work with regardless. At least I might have time to grab that 2nd mag.
Not pro or con on the new release, looks good, I'm happy with stock on mine. Never thought about the (maybe) holster issue.

I put mine on my FS40 which I don't carry...I would have to try it on my Shield 40 around the house for a full day or more to see if it would effect un-wanted release before I would make it permanent....my hands are getting old and I will take anything that makes things easier and this does for me...like anything this isn't for everyone....I appreciate Trevor giving me the opportunity to try it out

I can see the utility in these. My thumbs are a bit short. While I can reach the mag release, I can't get enough purchase on them to drop the mag without a grip change.

I wear extra large gloves and I must change my grip to reach the stock mag release. I will certainly try it as soon as it is available.
I see there is another manufacturer making one but there is no mention of the material it is made from.

It will clear some holsters but not all. I don't think its practical for CC but for the range and competition it definitely makes a difference. The length changes the angle at which your thumb naturally presses it, but the texture of the button and the the checkering just feel better than the stock or any stimpling i have run into. However i know its not for everyone which is why at the beginning of April when we are ready to ship we will be offering a "standard" length button as well. Made of steel like the extended, and melonite coated just like the slide on the M&P it will be the same as the stock length button with a better feel than the original part. This is what it looks like

Unfortunately these don't fit the shield only full size and compacts. But we of course are working on a standard size button for the shield and will announce when they are available. As far a price goes im not going to break any forum rules and sell them here (only wanted to make an announcement about their introduction to the market) but the price will be on the site when the parts are ready to ship the first of next month. The only hint ill give is if you have seen what the other extended mag release on the market sells for......we are very competitive.

It would be cool if you make a special "pre-order" for the forum members. Maybe special pricing on the first run. I would be in to buying a couple on a deal for the first run.

My take is it is not needed, train yourself to use the weapon you have and be done with it. Just like triggers, unless it is really bad their is no need to change, unless you are shooting competition. If you have to pull your weapon in the heat of the moment... your not going to know the difference between 3.5 trigger pull to a 6.5 pull. Your just going to pull it even if it was 15 lbs.

I always carry an extra mag...
I don't need the extra rounds for a running gun battle, but rather as a backup to my first magazine. What if my first mag malfunctions? What if I accidentally release the first mag onto the ground as I sprint to cover?
Everyone has their comfort level, mine includes a spare mag.

Well I finally got around to installing mine in my FS 45 today and I have to tell you, despite what I originally thought, I'm impressed. I didn't think I'd like it but I do, given the very limited interaction I've had with it thus far.
I was the "pessimist" in the test group, and though I'm not sure I'd buy another one, I'm pretty sure I don't want to give this one up, if that makes sense. That should tell you a lot. Much easier to find and use.
Sorry it took me so long to get around to this. Life sometimes gets in the way.

What are the benefits of the standard length mag release? My big concern is I wouldn't want a mag release that would be more likely to drop a mag in the holster, but I'd be open to a release that will not cause that and makes it easier and quicker to change mags when needed...

Quick question, how much does the extended release protrude from the frame? The reason I ask is that in some sanctioning bodies that measurement is limited. Thanks

The largest benefit to the standard length is the texture of the button. The dimensions are the same as the stock piece however we noticed quite a lot of owners stimpeling thier buttons for a better feel. The aggressive serrations on the standard length button prevents your thumb from sliding forward twords the trigger and is comparable with all holsters.

Bkreutz, I measured the button face at it's highest point (this is the surface from the edge of the button to the trigger guard) on the factory part and that measured .240". The extended, measured in at .365".

So yours would be illegal in IDPA SSP (stock release only) and maybe ESP (depending on where you measure it, the limit is .2" from the frame, not the trigger guard, but the grip surface). Wouldn't be any problem in other sanctioning bodies as far as I can find. I've gotten around the ESP rule by removing the "shroud" that guards the release. (of course this eliminates using this pistol for SSP but I use a different pistol for that). Looks like a good product, may have to try it on my Open gun.

I'm I correct in my understanding that this is an all steel part? The factory mag catch is a steel piece that's coated with polymer. If it is all steel, I see that as a major benefit.

Yes it is an all steel part. The factory part is polymer with a steel insert. That insert is the part that actually contacts the magazine.

I originally measured the height of the extended release from the trigger guard. Just remeasured it off the frame per IDPA rules and it is 0.16" off the frame making it legal for ESP. We have also received lots of feedback from users saying it was legal for ESP class but not SSP class when they competed with it. Hopes this helps and clears it up a little

This looks to be better made than what I've purchased recently from 21 century gunfighter!
I had to take my dremel and shave off a few to help seat the mag release all the way after being pushed. Otherwise, it had a clicking effect if the additional plastic was not shaved off.
Going to order this now .....
