I cannot say what kind of backlog your "Smith" has but I took my Shield in for the APEX trigger kit install and picked it up 2 hours later. Supposed to be a quick job. By the way.. I love the new trigger on my Shield.

Go pick up your gun and do it yourself. Most of the apex parts are drop in and they have very good installation videos.

I put an Apex DCAEK kit in my 9c with no gunsmithing experience. The only issue I had was the sear plunger went zinging and I had to figure out what the missing part was and I had to buy another. (I bought 2 just in case, lol). I just receive a FSS kit and competition spring kit that is going in my Pro and an polymer trigger that is going in my 9c.
There are lots of you tube videos out there on how to disassemble your gun and how to put in the kits. Good luck!
