Freshen up MP40c
I bought my 40c used. Got a new 9c for my GF over the weekend.
Clear, very clear to me....the springs on my 40 are worn.
So I'm thinking of freshening up my 40c.
Fresh recoil spring and guide rod (stock is 17# I believe, it is yellow on one end. Any reason to go higher? It will be my EDC and will only shoot 165 or 180 FMJ or JHP for SD.
Fresh spring for the extractor (is it worth buying the Apex failure resistant extractor, or just factory?)
Fresh striker spring, and new magazine springs as well.
Any other parts I should consider replacing? I honestly don't know the round count before I bought it.
I've got about 500 down range since owning it.
I had one failure to eject yesterday...stuck in the barrel. It came out easily....and had no more issues after another 40 rounds. Since I switched ammo (thanks to the members here) I've had no other failures of any kind.
But after handling my GF's new 9c, it' clear my mag and recoil spring are worn and not as snappy/strong.
Any other wear or springs I should replace to freshen it up?

Comparing the feel of firing a .40 to a 9mm is not a good comparison of spring wear. That being said, one of my pistols (Pro Core 9mm) has over 40K rounds through it. Still on the original recoil spring, did put an Apex extractor in but left the original extractor spring in. Just replaced the striker (assembly, including spring) due to light strikes, so it went 40K. The flat wound recoil springs that the M&P uses aren't subject to the same fatigue as a round coil spring. But I guess it wouldn't hurt to change them all either. Your choice.

It won't hurt to replace a few springs. However, you can't tell by feel if they are worn out. If the gun is functioning reliably, why change anything? If the one extraction issue you had was due to the ammo, it is not an indication of a malfunctioning gun.
No, I'd keep shooting it.
All that aside, let me answer your questions:
There is no reason to alter the recoil spring weight. Too many have perfectly functioning guns with the stock spring.
Neither is there a reason to change out the extractor. Installing an Apex extractor is not wrong, it's just money you don't need to spend. If you had multiple extraction failures, that would be a reason to suspect the extractor. Other than that, no need to change it.

To be clear..I wasn't comparing recoil from shooting it...no brainer...lol.
From racking the slide to loading the mags. I'll stop worrying about silly things and just shoot. I favor this one over my sd40ve big time...
Thanks for the reassurance...this place is like my shooters anonymous club...lol.

My reason was that it was winter, I didn't want to shoot matches in the rain, and I was bored so I got the Apex extractor because I was curious. Didn't change anything but I left it in and threw the original extractor into the spare parts box in my range bag. I'm easily bored.

I thought it always rained in WA? If you want to shoot out doors, you have to shoot in the rain, right?
Many a modification has been done to a gun through boredom. I can't tell you how many times I've detail stripped guns just to see what was inside. Then, because it's all apart, you might as well change something, right?

Well, the rain is colder in the winter. Summertime is usually dry but I'm not counting on anything staying normal with the weather lately.
