Default Conundrum

I really like my M&P 9C however, for me it's pretty difficult to properly conceal especially as the weather warms and I shed a covering garment. It prints more than my 5" 1911 (Sparks VMII holster for that) lol. I also just picked up a 442 which I can carry much easier wearing shorts & a t-shirt (my typical spring/summer wear).

My Compact is set up with an Ameriglo front night sight, Apex duty/carry kit, have 5 12 rd mags for it and a very nice custom made holster. I bought it unfired from the original owner last year, have put approx 500 trouble free rounds through it.

I'm trying to decide if I should sell it and get one of the larger 9mm M&Ps to use for the range/fun/etc role. I like having a 9 as they're fun to shoot, ammo is plentiful (at least in my area), so to those of you with the full size models what do you say? Sell or keep?

The other models I'm interested in are the VTAC and the Pro. I could also just get the standard full size and if needed put in the Apex Duty/Carry kit in.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I love my 9c too, but found the same issue for summer carry, so I bought a Shield 9. Problem solved. You can always purchase the full size mags and order the X grip from eBay to fill the gap between the base of the mag and the grip. Just a thought. The VTac and Pro would also be nice alternatives. The more I talk it out the more it sounds like a win win situation.

I guess ability to conceal depends on body type, I carry a 9c every day. I wear a loose print shirt over a T shirt in the summer. One thing I had to do was use the flat bottomed mags as the ones with the finger rest printed badly. Didn't think it would make that much difference but it does for me. I use a OWB holster at 3:00. I also have a FS9 and a 9L Pro Core so I won't be much help on which to get, my answer is all of them. If I get in a situation where the 9c can't be concealed (the rare day in Seattle over 80 degrees) I have an LCP that will hide just about anywhere. I've only carried that one day in the last 2 years.

I carry a full sized MP in the summer with a Tee Shirt and shorts. I go 1 size bigger in clothes. I have never had a problem with printing and I carry a Shield in my pocket and a Ruger SR9c in a smart carry or back packet that I have had to carry because I need 2 fusion in my back.

I miss my M&P 9C. I had no problem concealing it during warm weather IWB with a button up shirt.

Good stuff guys, thanks. For me, the "square" guns-Glock, Sig and the M&P-are more difficult to conceal than the 1911 regardless of wearing a t or straight tail button shirt (even the 511 shirts). The airweight too is great for pocket or iwb and with my build doesn't print. The M&P looks like I've a small brick under my shirt lol.

For me a full size is just more fun at the range with the longer sighting plane and longer grip.

Yep, a 1911 is much easier to conceal. It's thinner which makes it easier to conceal.

I have a full size M&P .45 that I like very much. I also have a .40 with a 9mm barrel. If I were you I'd get the full size 9mm.

To me, all the concerns of CCW were solved when the Shield came out.
So easy and comfortable to carry but yet a great accurate shooter too.
Not enough capacity for ya?
Stick a spare mag in your pocket. No biggie.

Sorry if my point isn't clear; not trying to find a new ccw piece-feel well covered by my choices of the 1911 & 442. I've used both types for over 35 years.

The Compact is a great gun but for range/fun use I'm thinking a full size will be more practical. Anyone have a VTAC or Pro & are they truly worth the higher price?

No, I would think a regular model with an Apex upgrade would be better than a Pro. The VTAC is just for the sights.

I have a Pro. I like it a lot! IMO it is the best value in the M&P line. It comes with night sights and a decent trigger. It is not an APEX but it is far better than the standard ones. I paid $515 for mine so it was a great value to me.

At that price, definitely get the PRO.
