Apex Kit
So I have been reading alot on here about the Apex Duty Carry kit. I own and carry a 40c concealed often. I just ordered that kit but then came across the trigger kit. I've read alot from people that have done the first but not the second (trigger kit). Has anyone done both? Is doing the trigger overkill after doing the duty carry kit? They make the trigger kit in either aluminum and polymer and the polymer is only about 40 bucks. Any thoughts?

I got and installed just the dcaek kit no trigger. Its def an improvemnt.
I would guess the trigger itself is gonna be very prr person. The aluminum trigger is more Glock-ish and from what ive gathered also a little better/ shorter take up and reset.
Kind whats your preference. Just the Dcaek kit took my trigger from stock icky to. Nice 5 lb on the nuts. Was hoping for 5.5 but 5 is what got. Ill make it work

I'm wondering the same thing. I decided on a DCAEK and it will be here in a couple days. From what I have researched the $40 poly trigger addition will give you 20% less pre travel and a smidgen less over travel than a DCAEK and factory trigger alone. IDPA is something I want to try and if I want to compete, the poly trigger will disqualify me. I don't mind the pre travel in the factory trigger but want to lose the gritty heavy break (over 7lbs) so I'm hoping the DCAEK alone will do it for me.

I have put both the DCAEK kit and polymer triggers in both our 9c's. On my 9c I first put about 700 rounds through it stock. Then I added the duty carry kit. About a month after installing the DCAEK kit, I put in the new trigger. The factory trigger just felt narrow to me. I really like the combo. The husband liked the feel of the combo on my gun so much he bought a 9c and had me do the same thing to his.

Thank you. So do you find that with both kits installed the trigger pull is still in the neighborhood of five pounds? Seems the mechanics of the Apex trigger are a little different plus you cut some of the "slop" on the front end.

I have the 5" Pro for IDPA use, and trigger is smooth at 4 1/4# with some polishing SB and trigger bar
AND NO AFTERMARKET PARTS OF ANY KIND.
For IDPA, the FSS is legal IN ENHANCED PISTOL DIVISION, just not in Stock Service Pistol. Internal kits that do not change the trigger are legal in IDPA SSP.
IMHO, having shot ALL the variations of the kits, the FSS is suitable for competition, not for carry. Buy whatever you want, but STRONGLY suggest you shoot the gun first before modifying it.

Like I said, I put the DCAEK kit and polymer trigger in. The trigger does remove some of the pre-travel. I left in the factory trigger spring and I also left in the DCAEK sear spring (the trigger comes with a heavier sear spring) because I wanted a less than 5# trigger. With these changes, my trigger pull is 3.5 lbs and the husbands is at 4-4.25 lbs. His is not all the way broken in yet. If I find the trigger too light I can always put the sear spring that came with the trigger in or put the Apex trigger spring in. Both will make the trigger heavier.

The burwell trigger is pretty much the same thing as the apex trigger. The only difference is you are doing the polishing/cutting and not apex. If you're installing the apex kit your self you might want to go ahead and polish some of the things that the burwell job does like the trigger bar and stiker. I have done neither but will probably add the apex kit to my new shield after a few hundred more rounds.

I love the Apex trigger in my 40c, less over travel is an understatement, there is barely any, still some pre travel but it is less, The FSS kit really takes all the pre travel and over travel out, I put that in my CORE 9, and I would still carry it.

DCAEK in both 9C and Shield 9 left stock trigger in, never looked back. Thousands of trouble free rounds. You'll love it! I live in Mass and changed on both guns before I even shot them. Watch video on install.

I had the DCAEK kit installed in my M&P a while ago and everything improved drastically, my accuracy also improved. I ended up having a polymer AEK trigger installed as well and It made shooting a completely different experience. I love the combination if the kit and the trigger. The polymer trigger is kind of contoured and feels ergonomic. I have shot over 1000 rounds since and my shooting has improved a lot.

I ordered the Apex Kit for my Shield yesterday from a guy on ebay for 79.99 with free shipping. A local gunsmith will install it for 50. The trigger now is not bad, a little stiff and not real smooth compared to my Taurus 85ch. The Taurus was worked on a long time ago.

I have the DCAEK in my .40c, and it is a great trigger. I was at the range the other day and a fellow had a .40fs with the Apex aluminum trigger and a RAM in it. Said to me feel the reset on this gun... well I was not very impressed with it, and did not have the heart to tell him the reset on mine was a little better, and my trigger pull was leaps and bounds above his. Told him to polish his trigger bar and striker block to make it pull a little better. His reset was a little shorter than mine, but not by much. Get the DCAEK and polish the trigger bar and be done with it.

Had the duty carry kit and polymer trigger installed yesterday along with trijicon night sights. My local gunsmith installed it same day for $50. Have only dry fired so far but it feels great...so much better. I'll get a couple hundred rounds through this weekend and really feel the difference.
