Default M&P CORE suppressed action noise

I finally got my Octane 9 recently and have been able to test it with some 147 and 124gr reloads. They seem rather loud to me compared to another M&P that was demoed to me last year using the same reloads. I feel like a good bit of the noise is coming from the action. I'm wondering if I need to increase the poundage of the recoil spring to decrease the action noise. I've seen a kit on the Wolff spring website that I think had a 17,18,19,20 and 22lb spring set. I'm wondering if this will help at all or if anyone else has put a stronger recoil spring in for suppressed use and what your results were?

I have no idea on your question but I am going to follow your thread as I have a TiRant 45 in the works. Hope to run it on my Core. What barrel are you using? How accurate is it compared to your factory?

My barrel is a storm lake threaded barrel and is the same accuracy as my factory barrel. My question was how to reduce the noise the action of the gun makes as well as noise that escapes in the chamber area when shooting suppressed. I'm thinking the slide is opening too soon letting gases escape and making more noise.

You can juggle springs to try and minimize, but with any S/A action you will have some noise..... unless you install a slide lock, like the MK22 had.

A suppressor reduces recoil, and as such the norm is usually softer recoil springs are needed to assure proper action, not higher pressure springs to try to reduce sound.

Although you are right that the suppressor reduces recoil it also increases the back pressure which can help cycle some rounds. I haven't had any problems cycling anything with the can on, but I did get the XP spring kit in and I'm going to give it a try to see what happens. I'm going to start with a 20 pound and go from there. That seems to be a common recoil poundage in handguns that were designed to be shot suppressed.

Out of curiosity, does anyone have some safe 9mm loads using Universal powder and 158 gr 38/357 LRN bullets just for fun extra quiet demo shooting? I know the bullet is a little bigger but I can get a sizer if needed.

I have been loading plated 158 FPs or many years now.

Since the core is soft swagged lead, the .357 diameter is no big deal. Unfortunatly, I have only loaded it with 231, never used universal

I find these quieter than the IMI 158 factory load out of my M&P Spec Ops with my Trident

Those look great! Do you think it would matter if I used just lead no jacket if I found a load for universal?

I NEVER shoot lead through center-fire cans. Why create a tougher cleaning problem than you have to.

Mostly because I have an SWR octane and it is super easy to disassemble and clean. The hardest area to clean is the booster cage which isn't removable, and that isn't even that bad. I know it's similar to the trident but I like its baffle style better. I bought it specifically so I could use it for 22lr in addition to my usual 124 gr plated bullets.
